I have had a variety of problems with my MV6 since purchase, and due to financial constraints have only managed to keep her going by the skin of my teeth.
Main issue was really rough running and various misfires throughout the rev range, having looked at all the possible reasons it seemed down to plugs/leads/coil pack. On saturday I recevied my £25 lead set new from ebay and my Lucas plugs £10 so with trepidation I began the task of changing plugs and leads. I did not remove the plenum but rather undone the simple stuff, lifted and moved to the pass side covering the holes with cloth. Drivers side plugs easy change, there was a tiny amount of oil in plug nearest grille so cleaned and replaced plug. Moved plenum to other side managed to change 2 plugs but could not get access to plug nearest bulkhead. So contiued on removed the wipers which was a pain and then removed the scuttle, I couldn't believe how difficult it was to see the coil pack never mind replace the leads, but the extra bit of room with scuttle off and a bit of pushing a shoving I managed to get remaining plug out, however despite all attemps with plug tool I decided to install plug by hand, its now in finger tight..
The leads from ebay are much longer than on the car and I am not an expert on lead quality but the seemd to be well made, I decided to do passenger side first and with the extra length the difficult plug nearest the engine was easier to attach new lead than it was to get previous lead off. Anyway I managed to get all the leads on , then the joy of putting everthing back on, I had removed the ICV and cleaned this as instructed on this site bit of carb cleaner and some 3in1 job done. I had also taken of brathers and cleaned as instucted.
The biggest issue I had putting it all back together was nerves and getting the scuttle back under the windscreen rubber.
I started the car and it actually sounded like a non-misfiring motor, and I am delighted to say once out on the road my grin was huge, car is running like a dream, responsive and quick.
Just wanted to let others know that some of the stuff mentioned on this site can be done without being as skilled as many of the posters are on the forum.
Still to be done.
Cat-exhaust sounds realy bad.
Front Brake pads
