First Aid
« on: 03 January 2008, 18:44:57 »

How Important is it to be Qualified as a First Aid helper.

My Firm want to send me on a course, but i really want to get out of it.
If anyone could let me know the Importance of such a Qualification then i may go for it. :y

Could never see the point myself. If it bleeds stick a plaster on it. If it's broken, panic.  ;D

Good point, well made. If it weren't for people like James then there would be a lot more fatalities.  :) :)

If you go on the course, they'll put your name up on a board somewhere as a qualified first-aider. Then you'll be expected to look after every idiot that scratches themselves or gets a bump on the head. Tell them to break off (or that you faint at the sight of blood) :y

We've got two first aiders who go weak at the site of blood.

In a glass factory as well.  ;D ;D ;D

I am afraid STMO123 is correct for once ;D ;D, the firms have to have qualified first aiders as part of the H&S 1974 and so on Acts, and have FA stickers posted in Areas of the work premises naming trained first aiders, unless they are offering you more doycheemarks then don't bother. Also have to do refreshers every so often, and make sure the accident log book is completed if and when an accident occurs 8-)

It is a very important skill to have under your belt, if only to know what NOT to do in an emergency situation.
Many people amaze themselves with their own bravery on such occasions, and some knowledge can be a life saver.
And yes! I am a hypocrite. I have no such training.
