I dont know if any of you recall but i have had some issues with my alloy wheels (shown in the gallery under miggy family) anyway, the trouble was the balancing issue which was sorted by the bloke in Melton Mowbray, one of the tyres still has a flat spot and there is still a slight vibration from this, once tyres are changed this should be sorted also, now my problem is the blo"dy finish on them, the alloys are a polished alloy and the person who had them before me cleaned them with what looks like sodding wire wool, in the summer the wheels look stunning as they keep their shine, but now winter is here they are a real pain to keep clean, there seems to be what looks like white spots apearing due to the road salt and when the brake dust gets in them it is a pain to remove, once removed they look good but it dont last.

I usually remove the wheels for winter and put the origional CDX wheels on, but this does not do them any good as they can be stood in the garage for months on end.

I have spoke to the man in Melton and he recommends having them totally recoated with a colour of my choice, this can cost up to £85 per wheel, he dips them to clean, then powder coats them ready for baking, he said i could clean them and have them clear coated but this would not last if i missed any areas when cleaning.

I think i may cut my losses and go for a complete new set of wheels and tyres, thing is, i like the wheels so much and they look good on the miggy. I will most likely put them on ebay and start the bidding low to see what i get for them.

Thanks for the tip, do you think this would work, i could give them a autoglym high gloss coat on them also, wonder if this would keep the road salt out :question :question :question

If you like the wheels that much Pete, £85 per wheel isn't that much to pay if they come up like new. Got to be cheaper than new wheels in any case.

I think re-paint is worth..If a quality job is done will be more resistant to stone chips than original paint..

I know mate but £340 to have the wheels coated then the tyres are due to be changed thats another £500.

I have seen new alloy wheel packages with upgrade tyres for £600, i know the tyres are not michelins but they would last me a few thousand miles. :-/ :-/

I guess that it depends on how much you like the cheaper options and what the quality of the finish is. You never know, the new alloy package must be done down to a price.

After a good wash,waxing them will help to keep clean for a while..If you dont wash with detergents.

personally i wold have the wheels refurbed.

Wheel/tyre packages are generally done to a price, and i would stick my neck out and say the probability is the tyre size wouldn't be right.

It is a lot of money, but the are the wheels that you like and will you feel the same way about it f something else is on there?

A good clean with Autosol alloy polish or T-Cut to get rid of oxidised patches, a couple of coats of wax polish for initial protection and then either Autoglym Gloss as a minimum or a sealant such as Lifeshine as the smoother the surface the less that can cling long enough to start corrosion.

Get a good enough wax coating on and the wheels should nearly self clean when it's wet.
