Hi all,

This may sound like a daft question, but I wonder why my exhaust smells "weird".

I can describe it as a mixture of gunpowder and steamy hot clothes, at least after I've had a heavy right foot. The exhaust is really, really hot, but haven't seen any glowing cats yet, but I guess it's pretty close.

What should it smell like? It most certainly don't remind me of normal exhaust fumes. I think I might have semi-blocked cats..

Wouldn't think it's running rich as it lacks power all the way, but lambdas should tell the ECU to reduce fuel, unless they're defective though..

I have a small exhaust leak from the downpipe or manifold, you can barely hear it or smell it. Just hope it doesn't affect the lambda  :-/

Sounds like I have to get rid of the cats. The exhaust is one year old from cats to back.

When the cats are starting to fail apparently they start to smell like rotten eggs from what I heard.  :-/

Yes, and when you mention it, it might be a hint of sulfur in the smell. Oh well, angle grinder, some pipes and a welding machine. Open the cats (from the top), dig out the guts, weld in a pipe and stitch on the casing again.
I won't even think of buying new cats as they're so incredibly expensive. My Carlton passed emissions test with this  8-)
