If they are bolts, can they be replaced with studs/nuts and vice versa?

There's no way of telling if you will need studs and nuts until you start to undo them, 9 times out of 10 the studs undo from the head rather than the nuts coming off the studs so I would by them just incase. You will need the 4x dowty washers, 1 coolant transfer pipe O-ring, manifold gasket and the manifold to downpipe gasket though ;)

I've never tried tbh but they should be OK if you spray them well (but only on a cold manifold ;))

Forgive me, but why do you need parts for the coolant bridge when doing exhaust manifold gaskets?

If doing the drivers side you have to remove the coolant transfer pipe which can (at a struggle) be removed with the coolant bridge in place but I find it so much easier to remove it.

Thanks Elite Pete, (and everyone else). Do you know what size the nuts are for the studs? I've got the studs coming but not the nuts. I've seen some copper ones on the web I'll get if they are the right size. Also, is this the gasket I need for the downpipe: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370327511100&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I thought I needed the one that was triangular on the edges IIRC?

Interesting how nobody has taken up the challenge of replacing my gasket for £300.  ;D ;D ;D

It's a shitter of a job!

Mine needs doing badly, and Daz is not keen but will do it. He suggests removing the head..... Make it much easier to replace broken studs though...

I will be watching with interest the progress of Geoff.

Well the only exhaust work I've done is replacing a back box and that was on my old cavalier. So it'll be a new experience for me. I'd love to book it in the garage, but they've only got two hands the same as me, will be using the same tools as me, and doing the same thing as me, so if they can do it, I can, probably better and cheaper too if my experience of dealers is anything to go by! I'll not be attempting it for a few weeks yet. Got my wheels booked in for complete refurb, so will get the car on stands and do it then. Boyakasha!

Anyway, have you ever had an idea and people tell you how daft it is or that it won't work? But you know it will. Then when you do it, it goes better than expected and works brilliantly? It can't be that hard, as much as I like Omegas, they are mass produced. They're not hand made bespoke one off items, the exhaust manifold gasket might be a bit fiddly and not straight forward, but nothing seems straight forward for me! Anyway, it's only a gasket. If I don't try it won't do itself! I'm going to kick it's a**e! The beast is steadily getting back to 100%, then I'll keep it forever, when everyone is driving round in strange futuristic pod things that run on fresh air. I'll bring out the beast and people will look on in amazement: "What is this machine". I'll fire it up, and people will run in fear, being used to their quiet boring pods. They'll think it's some sort of prehistoric lump (the ignorant do already), not realising what an amazingly powerful and capable machine it is.
