Conmen
« on: 08 January 2008, 13:19:53 »

Ive just been on my account to see how much I have to spend on goodies for the Omega and the LPG conversion and had the shock of my life. Atlantic Gas and Electric has upped my DD from £71 a month to £163 a month and when I phoned they said its because I was £30.60 short last year and the increase is to cover it so I wont be short next year. Im not as stupid as I look, do they think I wont notice a £92 a month increase to cover £30 a year shortfall.I have just told them there wont be a next year and asked them to send me a final bill.
Highway robbery >:(

Rant over ;)

Only way to deal with these people. Who do they think they are? Plenty more companies waiting for your business and it's not exactly hard to swap. A few clicks of the mouse. I'm waiting to see what the prices do in the aftermath of NPower's hike.

Npowers Hike :-X, i am about to changeover to them from British Gas, the figure they showed me were cheaper than BG, when I looked at it the other days those figures were actually March 2007 figures, which did get me thinking whether they were still valid.

On Friday npower announced an average increase of 17.2 per cent in gas and 12.7 per cent in electricity bills. On certain regional tariffs the increase was as high as 27 per cent.

Time to wander over to uSwitch.com I think.

My gas and electric will be cheaper this year because the youngest has left home and she would spend 15 minutes in the shower every day :'(

I think I'm with Scottish Power at the moment (Online Energy Dual Fuel). Still seems to be the cheapest give or take a few quid.

They have been OK (inasmuch as they haven't tried to fleece me). The only DD increase they did make was a reasonable one.

It's normally there as small print on the bottom of a bill or other communication, hidden away so you don't notice it.

I'm on the Staywarm scheme, (because I'm very old), where I pay a fixed amount for 12 months no matter how much gas & electricity I use. They don't read the meters very often, but tell me each year how much I've used. And Yes! they have been wrong for the last three years: readings too high. They adjust the amount I pay annually and so far I have stayed with it (I read my meters monthly as a check), but I think a shop-around will be necessary next time.
I don't think the sheme does anything for conservation. We don't really abuse the system, but I bet thousands lose all sight of economy and go mad. It should really be there to help those who struggle to afford to keep warm, eg. pensioners with low incomes, and should be far more rigidly monitored.

I took the price protection up until April 2010 with Powergen (now Eon). Costing me a bit more at the moment, but looking good for the future.

Not entirely sure who my electric/gas is with.  I know I am on a IGP so yet stung for gas (what a bloody con that is, having to pay transco and someone else to deliver the gas to my door  >:().  And I know the electric is £100 per month.

Tempted to buy a bloody generator, stuff those tossers
