Humbled...
« on: 10 January 2008, 15:36:51 »

.. by VW Transporter DTI. Thought it would be easy peasy to get ahead of it at the traffic lights, but the bugger gave up quite a fight for the first 10 yards (his roar could be heard all over London I must add, the Omega is much more subdued), but then he ran out of breath as it needed to change gear (narrow power band on Diesels he he). While I was still going strong in 1st and could have gained on him easily from this point on, sadly the road narrowed down and I had to give up.  :-/

Some of those Transporters are quick. Too quick for the muppets that drive them >:(

One is always belting along in the opposite direction on a road that's barely more than single-track on my way to work. Way too fast and expects everyone to get out of his way.

On the one day I was in a Micra "courtesy" car (which deserved to be put out of its' misery, TBH), and determined to stand my ground, I didn't see him. ::)

They tend to be low geared to allow for the loading.

Reminds me of Bedford Midi - rapid up to 10mph!

When in situations like this I tend to be very prepared

Exactly what we used to do with them.....then we took them to the Melton Road in Leicester to sell.

You can beat a transporter any time you want if the road is empty..

But in traffic not a good idea to push as its a heavy car and their

drivers are not normal.

:)A mate's got a Transporter van, in fact he took me to Leeds to buy my Mig. Drove from Immingham slowly all the way, came off the M62, waiting at a roundabout, & he gunned it in 1st & 2nd. As said before low revving diesel but the short range punch was impressive for a van.
I've still got me Mig & his van's going strong. He uses it for his Labrador breeding hobby & he carrys race bikes in it & fabricates fibreglass bike panels for a living.
Considering the work that van does if i needed a van i reckon i'd get a transporter. :y
