I just got me 1st Omega delivered yesterday.  It's an ex-PSNI 3.2 MV6.  Bad bits are (more details to follow):

1) Possible head gasket / oil cooler failure?  (Hope it's the latter)
2) Missing power steering resevoir.
3) Poverty spec interior with holes in everything.
4) Holes in bodywork for roof lights and aerial.
5) Stickers to be removed.

The good bits are that she's a 3.2 MV6 manual with 50k miles which I bought for £2250.  Yes, it needs tlc and I know I've got my work cut out for me, somewhere beneath the murk is a nice car.  I've just posted photos in the photo section if anyone fancies having a look at what I've let myself in for.  :-/

What make you think it the HG or oil Cooler ?

Unfortunately, being in Northern Ireland, there's not much choice and you're looking at £300 to bring a car over for the mainland UK.  I wish I lived there as you guys are spoilt for choice and multiplicity is reflected in the value of a car.  For me, it was the best I could get on a budget and I really wanted a 3.2 manual.

Will do those checks as you suggest, it's just getting the time.  I was told by the police mechanic that it was the head gasket but this is often misdiagnosed?  I'll do those checks and post back asap.

The power steering resevoir is missing as it was removed for another police car while it was in service.  Robbing Peter to pay Paul, but hey, I've got that part sourced already.

Thanks, mate.  Yes, I'm determined to see it through.  The gluey remains of the stickers are proving to be a bit of a bugger to remove, but I'm making steady progress.

If anyone has any reccommendations for removing the gluey residue from stickers, they'd be greatfully recieved.  I'm using a heat gun, petrol and an isopon scraper.

Nice one!  Just bought 5L of panel prep/degreaser.  Will try it seeing I've bought it, but that sticky stuff remover could prove to be a God-send!

Just had a peek in the gallery sh*t theres a lot of glue on there, give white spirit a try its cheap and wont react with the paint i've used it successfully a few times. It should scrub up well, and 50K on the clock is a bonus

Maplin sell cans of "sticky label remover" which I find quite good for dissolving the adhesive. You'd get through a few cans doing a whole car though, I guess.

LOL.  Thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and warm my hands up whilst I work!   I do joke.  (Just wish I has a garage!)  >: (I should point out that I use the heat gun to remove the stickers that are more intact and the petrol on the gluey adhesive that's left.  The two jobs are done separately!  

This being N.I. a white police Omega on fire wouldn't be anything new.  Thankfully things have calmed down a lot this last few years.

By the way, I bought 5L of paint prep/degreaser from the motor factors and it's working well.  It does require 3 or 4 applications before the adhesive is completely removed.
