head gaskets done
« on: 20 February 2011, 19:38:25 »

just done both my head gaskets engine started up ok sounds a bit ticky. going to do a nother oil change on weekend as oil/water mix in engine didnt look good. my question is how long should it take for exhaust fumes to die down.  its been parked up for over a month.

are they exhaust fumes? After any substantial engine work it takes time for oily hand & finger marks to burn off.  :y

There'll be loads of condensate already in the exhaust. It'll all go after you've used it for a short while.  :y

How long have you had it ticking over? I'd have thought that the 'tappets' should've sorted themselves out in 10 or 15 mins of idling.

It was years ago since I've done any engine work that involved but my Senator's 'tappets' quietened down within 5 mins & that was after I'd emptied them of all oil.
