......
secondly, I abhor waste, so lugging the autobox around and paying extra for all that fuel is just not on.  .....

and this, from a man who owns (amongst many things) a Bentley Arnage .....  :-? :-? :-? :-?

you wouldn't believe how many times I've considered converting it.....

can someone explain me the reason of first gear ratio nearly reaching 90  km/hr ;D ;D ;D

that could be the most stupid ratio I have ever seen ;D the first time I witness it with a mechanic friend we were both shocked :o ;D

and when you are accelerating it continues to slip >:(

ok.. may be comfortable,  but not for hammering drivers like me.. waste of engine power ..

and the slip definitely waste of fuel if you drive it mostly in traffic jam..

it will be my first and last auto..promise ;D

that's actually a good thing.

you don't need a really short first gear for traffic in an auto

you can have a decent run up to speed without having to change gear

you can drop into first when you're driving

and because your torque converter is slipping, it's actually multiplying torque, so the car sees a much more powerful engine, probably 1.4 times

Auto for me :y :y it suits large cars, a possible exception might be for a small nippy car for country road fun...but not for regular running around town or commuting.......I must be getting old...... ::) ::) ::)

Yep, SWMBO's auto Jazz is brilliant, and very nippy, quicker off the mark than my TD (if unchipped as at present) :y :y :y.

1.  auto owners may want green light drag from time to time ;D

2. useful only between 40-70 (km) if we think in terms of acceleration :-/

3. when the autobox is slipping I only see an increasing rpm but an unproportional slow increase in speed which is not the case with manuals ???

It's a simple answer but a manual is like a trumpet, you press buttons to make the noise change.

An auto is like a trombone you slide it for the same effect which in my opinion is smooooooth  ;)

If you want to "play on twisty "B" roads with the auto it is exceedingly easy, and great fun ..

Select "S" button to "ON".  Place gear selector in position 2.

Drive .......  you now have a 2 geared car....  1st to 50 ish, 2nd to 80 ish....   and if you want more than 80 your "B" road is not twisty enough.

Easily quick enough to take on most boy-racers ...   :)

***Disclaimer***

Don't look at the fuel consumption data whilst doing this ... it is likely to cause consternation !!!!

Plus a degree of engine braking, and for an added bit of fun turn theT.C off  8-) :)

Personally I prefer manuals and the one in my MV6 is exceptionally sweet. I can`t stand the way an auto box decides to change down or up when you either don`t want or least expect it, and they`re less economical too.
And as for the `how many legs have you got` is the daftest argument for something I`ve ever heard, do you have a keyboard with 10 keys on it?
It`s all down to personal taste and what you want from the car  :y

Yes; an African Thumb Piano  ;D

PMSL, like it  ;D

I'm rather attached to operating my 'S' button too  8-)

As a mechanical idiot, does prolonged 'affection' for same prematurely knacker the box?

I wont bother posting YouTube videos because quite frankly, I cant be bothered.... but, if you have a search and a view of a few Omega vids, you'll be able to see comparisons between Auto and Manual acceleration.

I noticed;

The Speedo rises in a quite fluid manner with an Auto, the Manual equivilent stops accelerating at gear-change (very quick gear changes at that).

The three gear changes required in a manual makes a 0-100MPH dash almost a second slower than the equivilent Auto.

A Manual will accelerate to 60MPH from 0 approximately 0.3seconds quicker (due to 'off-the-line' spurt).

These are all comparisons of like for like 2.5 or 3.0 Omega's respectively.

There are loads of vids.  Take a peek, and post your own observations.

NOTE:  All the timing I have observed are my quick (or not so quick) finger on the mouse to determine acceleration times.
