Juddery on LPG
« on: 10 June 2011, 10:42:06 »

My vehicle - 2.2 GLS Estate is very juddery when running on LPG. It frequently stalls at junctions when warm. Clears when switching to petrol
Any idea's?

Need more info on the system etc but... Are there any fault codes? When was the coil pack last checked? Plug condition? Have you done any work recently?

Just gone through MOT. New 3 part exhaust fitted. Not checked coil and plugs not checked for a while.

LPG requires the HT side to be in top condition as it is more demanding. First port of call for me would be plugs ;)

What system is it?

Thanks for the reply.
That is a good question, not being mechanically minded. I think the LPG system is a Nicholson Mclaren? Does that sound right?

Deffo plugs to be done first.
These need to be kept on top of or coil pack failure will result.

It could be several things, but here is my latest experience with my Stag 300 lpg kit on my mv6;

Poor idle, very poor mpg (14'ish) and juddery to drive/poor performance. Replacing the spark plugs made no difference at all, still performed well on petrol and poorly on lpg. Stripping down the lpg injectors revealed very degraded o-ring seals and worn plungers. Instead of buying a repair kit for them I bought new replacement injectors (Valtek Type 30), new filters and new fuel hose.
Now all fitted and calibrated she runs sweet as a nut, goes well and (I think) is returning reasonable mpg - I'm still running my first tank after fitting and calibrating.

Really your best bet for diagnosing the problem would be to get the relevant software and connection lead for your lpg system, plug in and have a look at how it's running. Hope that helps  :y

I think the system the OP has fitted is the Necam "Factory Fit" system and works slightly differently.

Have a search for Necam on http://www.lpgforum.co.uk and look for some images to help you confirm if I'm right. If so, it may be the LPG "Distributor" that needs cleaning ;)
