OK thanks for that i have bought new instant gasket, new spline drives, to remove something that had splines on, and a new 12mm spanner so i can replace the inlet manifold and get to the rear nut's more easily, I did see a spanner set with ring ratchets that also has pivoting ends very nice and just the job for the rear most nut but at forty euros for four i found that a bit steep ( or am i just tight?) so i bought one i can modify specially for the job. Why can't car designers put an engine in a car so that a mechanic can do most jobs without having to hire a three year old child to squeeze between the gaps. And the number of bits that stick out with razor sharp edges is beyond belief. Im actually thinking of using an angle grinder to remove the front of the windshield wiper motor support so i can get my hand and ratchet in behind the engine. Any way thanks for all the good info im off to my garage. have posted another thread on de catting the car. cheers  colin :D

Single most expensive spanner I have is my bluepoint 12mm ratchet spanner precisely for that job... Makes the job much easier...
