Hot Bottom
« on: 22 September 2011, 18:06:24 »

Been enjoying driving the Omega since buying it.

One thing I have noticed, is after a drive, when getting out an awful lot of heat hits you from under the car and you can smell the heat as well.

I'm guessing a V6 with two cats will get hot. Should I be concerned?

they do run hot and the fans often blow even more air out from under the car.

(was hoping for an interesting piccy with that title ::))

Depends how hot really.Might be an idea to pop along to the essex meet at Ardleigh in a few weeks, and you should be able to get a variety of opinions.  ;)
One or two of them might even have some idea what they are talking about. :D ;D ;D

Agreed they run very hot .. and I nearly had a VERY interesting picture in the summer after pulling into a field after a fairly hard tow .....  Luckily someone noticed the smoke from under the car as the straw started to smoulder and we were able to move the car to some hard standing PDQ .... could have been quite a nasty fire if not spotted .....:(

I'm now VERY aware of parking on dry grass/straw etc ......   :)

When I come to a stop at the slip road roundabout after exiting the motorway, I get wispy smoke coming from under my bonnet and a slight burning oil smell together with rather alarmed looks from my passengers  ::)
Not enough for other drivers to notice though

Oil levels are contant and no leaks temperature OK, I cruise around 85 (sshhhh !)  Obviously a problem but methinks it would cost a bit to fix

Sounds like camcover gaskets are leaking. Replace with genuine GM gaskets.Only tighten covers down to 8nm. Clean breathers out or it will happen again in the near future.
Probably oil in plug wells too. Clean the oil out before it fries your HT system. ;)

Cheers for gen Albs  :y Have had prob for a while but as I say, nothing on the ground so leak must be minor (at the mo :))

In the nature of my job, a long time ago used to work on big HF Transmitters and we had a term, 'Tune for maximum smoke'  ;D  Note to self - my car is not a transmitter  ;)

Btw apologies for thread hijack
