Locking Help
« on: 24 January 2008, 20:03:22 »

i might answer my own theory with this but basically my elite doesnt like staying locked!!

the locks themselves dont seem to be sticking, but i opened all 4 doors, boot and bonnet, and made sure i closed everything properly, then locked the door with the key, central locking brought all the locks down, then they popped up again, a couple of times i managed to get them to stay down, then when i came out a few minutes later to see if they'd stayed locked, i'd be a couple of feet away from the car and they'd pop up!!

i have 2 keys, caught sight of the red light coming on, is it possible it could be faulty "open" buttons? (keys look well used)

if this is the case i'm gonna need a car pass cos i dont have one, would i then need to get two new fobs programmed, and if yes, can i put my existing blades on the new fobs?

got the keys in front of me, no red lights plipping tho, gonna go check the car (leaving keys here) to see if they've opened themselves again, that way i would think it might not be the key!

if something on the car itself is stopping it staying locked, would it still make the fob light flash without a button being pressed?

What happens if you deadlock them with the key instead of the buttons ?

if i'm lucky they stay locked long enough for me to get away to get the keys out of range, i've just been back to the car and it was still locked, will check again in a short while tho, its looking like (i hope) faulty fob or fobs

i'd rather it not open itself while i'm out in the other car!!

It can sometimes be a sign that something is fouling the door lock or the central locking door pin mechanism - we sometimes see it if a door trim is not correctly aligned or some of the door trim pop studs are missing. Can even happen as a result of the wife slamming the door.

When the door pin goes down, it is "Jammed" and the central locking thinks it is being opened. if this happens on one of the front doors, it will pop them all.

Just another theory to throw in to the discussion.

Could be one of the door pillar switches is duff and it thinks a door is still open?

If it appears to be the fob button, it's not too bad a soldering job to replace the buttons if you've got a spare fob, and easier then getting them paired.
