Failed foggies!!
« on: 23 June 2008, 20:00:09 »

Hi guys, the front foglights on my Omy have stopped working. Have checked/changed the bulbs for new ones (known to work!! H1's from the headlights  :y ) but still no joy. Fuse in fusebox is OK, tested/changed.
Is there a relay somewhere that might have gone up the swanneee, if so, where should I look for it?
All help gratefully received!!

IIRC the front foglight relay is under the dash with all the fuses, easiest way to check if its working is put your hand over the lot turn headlights on and press the front fog switch, if its working you should feel it "click" under your hand. unfortunately i cant remember for definate which one it is. (for some reason i think its in the bottom left corner of the block)

Cheers guys!! the little relay, top left hand corner appears to be fubarred. Nil, nothing, zilch, when foggies switched on. looks like a trip to da stealers then, as local factors ain't got nothing that small.
probably no change from a tenner, knowing the local 'robbers'  ;D ;D

No breakers/scappys around your way then? You'd be able to restock on spare fuses at the same time.  ;)  :y

I would be checking for volts on the socket before buying a repalcement item, relays rarely fail

might well do as Dave suggests, get the meter out, and go voltage huntin' :y

Having poked about with the meter, I now suspect the switch itself, as volts at socket, when switch block removed, will now remove dual switches block from lighting block, and investigate further.
possibly insides of switch knackered??
might need a new lighting switch !! :(

According to the wiring diagram for the pre-facelift omegas. there is no relay for the front fogs, it is controlled directly from the headlamp switch Unit, I found this out when trying to fit fogs to a GLS model and couldnt get them to fit.

vauxhall dealer looked up schematic and said there is NO relay for the front fogs, turned out the connectors behind the front bumper had gone all green and werent transferring the power to the lights.

You can change the fog light switches independantly of the main switch unit, but replaceing the whole thing might be an idea.

Also worth changing the bulbs for illumination of the switch while you are at it.

Cheers

Hi gang,
Turned out to be the switch, as I suspected. got one from the scrappy, (asked if I could try before buy  ;D) and as he could see my car from the window, came out with me, and using me credit cards...(see, they ARE useful for something!!)to remove the unit, swapped units..Voila!! Foggies all lit up..
charged me a fiver for the whole gubbins..
Job done, and I am on happy fella.
(thanks for all your suggestions/help guys. What a bunch of heroes) :y
