Remote Locking Problem.....
« on: 05 July 2008, 20:11:06 »

Hi Guys,

2003 Elite

My remote locking was working fine until this evening.

On leaving the car tonight, the system wouldn't lock unless I held the key against the drivers window while operating the buttons.

Changed the key battery, still the same.
Tried to re sync but it won't operate the locks to confirm.
Tried my spare key, exactly the same problem.
Took battery out of key for 15 mins, tried to re sync but still no joy.
Thought if I disconnected main battery then the system might reset itself, but all that happened was alarm went off.

Any ideas chaps..................?

did you buy your spare battery at the same time as the one in the key? Maybe both are flat? More experienced chaps will be along in a bit no doubt.

Yo disconnect main battery, disconnect within 15s of switching off ign to prevent alarm going off.

As to the sudden reduced range, not sure.  Alarm ecu (with integral aerial) is in drivers kick panel.

Cheers for that info.....I'll disconnect the battery for half an hour to see if anything resets itself. I've got my radio code ready... ;D

You'll need to reset windows and sunroof after as well.

Not convinced it will make a difference, but let us know :y

You were correct........range still rubbish... :'(

It works fine inside the car, but still need to be within an inch of drivers door window for outside.

Its as if the key signal is too weak, but I can't see both my keys going wrong at the same time.

Changed batts again but still no joy.

Strange the keys still work without re syncing, but at this much reduced range...

Update.....

Still poor range this morning, but when I got to work it was back to normal. Returned home....poor range......went shopping.....worked fine...back home....poor range again..

So, is something close to my home suddenly interfering with my signal. If so, what could it be???

Nothing had been changed in my house.

Anyone know what frequency the keys work on?

Maybe someone in our street has bought an illegal TV repeater, or started a pirate radio station... ;D

Probably way off the mark here...its when you said about your remote doorbell that made me wonder.

Would a mobile phone signal blocker cause the interference you describe (basically the do as described...kill a mobile phone signal.. :-?)...i know from another forum these have recently been sold too members who enjoy being mindless prats and blocking neighbours mobiles from working.

Just a thought. :y

Have you lost your mobile phone signal as well then? easy way to dismiss that one!! most doorbells have a range of settings / frequencies - tried another?

Although not necessarily on the same frequencies, it wouldn`t be unknown for something new to the area giving off some form of "harmonic" signal that is disrupting your stuff.

Same can be said for 2-way radios (taxi/pmr) and CCTV with the IR/Night detectors can also knock out the Infra red alarm remotes (great fun in our car park with that one!)

Well, as mysteriously as it started, the problem has gone.... :-?

This morning the doorbell is working fine, and the car could be unlocked throu the kitchen window as before.

We had no trouble with our mobiles while this was happening.

I got to find out what this was...really buggin me... ;D
