Telematics to HU connection
« on: 01 November 2008, 10:29:27 »

Still having an issue with telematics being too quiet - I assume it doesn't like the low impedence of U29.  How about fitting a capacitor in line to hide the impedence? If so, what sort of value?

Possibly need a high value resistor across audio from telematics to stop it throwing a code  :-/

Would the Nokia CK7W's mute line provide enough power to drive the relay, and I still need a line off this to HU for telemute (not shown on diag).

Would the diag above solve my probs?

Pity that the CK7W doesn't have the auxillary alert as per previous Nokia kits, sure that would have driven the relay.

I can always put some silicon in from of relay if necessary.

My main concern is the capacitor on the TM feed.

depends what you want to happen to the charge/current matey,
a smaller capacitor effectivly takes less to charge before discharging, and you could add a low value resistor to slow it down but depends if your wanting small charge or big charge and if it's slow or quick to charge and discharge

hope that helps

Capacitor wont do anything .....as your talking impedance not DC resistance!

hmm will have a think about this for you over the weekend will have to get all my electronics notes out i do remember doing theory on changing impedance for telecomms eqpmt

Ah, good thinking.

Any ideas?

TB have you checked E0001233 on TIS?

Not a mic issue, its volume of 3rd party - needs to be at full volume to hear.

Like its expecting a hand set to be on full volume?

Not sure if I am understanding this problem fully?

But if I am, why not simply put a small amplifier (Should only require a couple of transistors, not a lot more) in line to boost the low volume?

If amp design is not your thing, a small amp is only a few quid from teh likes of maplins. Volume could then be adjusted for optimum levels.

Or am I missing something blindingly obvious here?

I think the imepedence of U29 (an audio transformer not fitted to later models, that sits just in front of Aux In) is dragging the telematics volume down.

I guess I simply need to use same circuit above, but with relay switching the signals after U29.  Only that means taking the bloody centre console out yet again.  Ho hum.

What Craplins couldn't supply was a small shielded cable to use between telematics and HU for audio.  Anyone know where I can get some?

Why not use an RCA / Phono lead ?  Cut the plugs off the end and solder directly / terminate accordingly?

From memory, wiring diags implied it was a shielded twin core. Guess I could use 2 of them....
