Telematics
« on: 15 December 2008, 17:36:26 »

What's involved in the installation of one of these?

I know it has a seperate antenna connection and I presume it plugs into the Telephone prewiring but is there anything else? Is the CAN connection included in the prewiring - I assume it needs CAN to interface to the head unit for the controls????

Also are the units coded? If so can they be uncoded?

Thanks in advance.
Andy.

Not sure how much wiring in place - its similar connector to MID/GID/CID etc, and will be behind glovebox.  If you have to wire yourself, it can be done, like mine, CAN to radio CAN, mute lead not reqd, audio out to radio aux in, mic.  Optional connections are diags, airbag, and handset plug.

The telematics is coded in same way as radio/display/cdc.

Its 900Mhz only.

900Mhz is fine for me (do you know what class? Hopefully class 2!!).

Already have MIC in courtesy lamp cluster.  :y

I would like to try and double head the prewiring cabling (Use an Autolead connected to this at the moment) so I can still use my Nokia CK7W.

Check which pins are used for MIC - it makes a difference!

I have mine with telematics and ck7w, but it may not be starightforward - I'm guessing that your autoleads has an isolating tranny on it?  I am going down line of a dpdt relay actuated by the Nokia CK7W mute line to overcome the mismatch.

Yep, autolead has a transformer on it. The simplest option for me may be to just use the +12V/+12V Switched/0V from the prewiring to run the CK-7W (using the standard Nokia Speaker and forgetting the mute).

From memory the courtesy lamp mic is the two centre pins..... I think!

Can still feed the mute into radio to mute it.  Your audio tranny may not upset the telematics as much as mine does (mine is prefacelift with built in audio isolator).

Correction to my earlier post, the built in mic has the two pins to the left connected (couldn't see any numbers by torch light  :-[)

OK, it has an amp built in to MIC then, so dead easy to connect telematics :y

Where does the microphone wire end up on a prewired facelift? Nothing apparent behind the glove compartment unless it's been taped up out of the way somewhere.

I assume the built-in amp is powered by a DC feed up the signal line?

Car has had a mobile phone antenna so I assume the rest of the prewiring is there...

Mic is wired through to the prewiring connector which is taped up above the glovebox with masking tape.

Ok, now working on the loom, i'm assuming the simplest thing to do is obtain another telemute lead and cut the (rather botched) loom I have obtained to make a prewiring - telematics adapter. I can keep a fairly long length of the CAN cable (presume that's the green and white pair in the toughened outer) to link into the CID/HU.

I'd use a trafficmaster loom - should be able to pick a full 36 way one cheap.

I've got one but I just thought that as I have the correct plug for the telematics fully wired that it would be easier to graft that onto a telemute lead?

I'm assuming all I should have left over then would be the CAN wiring?

Telemute going to prewiring in car? Nah, I'd wire it all to back of radio (ie, TM lead)
