strange one this !
« on: 23 February 2009, 14:30:45 »

2.5 v6 manual estate.

finaly get the clutch sorted so went for a long drive now this happens.
starts first time and idles about 600 rpm ........ great.
when pulling away ( warm engine ), its missing under load between idle and about 2500 rpm.  above that it goes like sh*t off a shovel  :y
Doing about 30mpg mixed driving so happy with that.

got home so had a look ...... no oil or water round the plugs and leads look pretty new so started thinking about paper clip test and possible coil pack / dis change.  ( 110,000 on the clock )

now the abs/ traction control lights are coming on ( normally when the brakes are applied and the engine is at low revs / coasting. stop the car, ignition off, restart and they disapear  :-/
just been out in the thing and have noticed that with a electrical load on, ( lights / heaters radio ect ) when the revs drop, the volume is dropping on the radio and the back lighting on the multi function display seems to dim  ::)
the engine management light has never lit.

anybody else had something simlar. ?
any help or advise gratefullly acepted
cheers   steve

Worth giving the battery a quick charge as well, so at least you know that if a suspect alternator is diagnosed, that everything else works fine with a full charge in the battery.

The norm is 14 - 14.5V. Seems a bit high. Usually if MID illumination is fluctuating it`s a sign of dodgy voltage regulator

Missing under load points to plugs/leads. Might be worth `clipping it to see if any codes are stored ;)

Changed the alternator for one off the saloon im breaking.
14.3 volts charging at the battery. radio and mid seam ok now.

Not had chance for the clip check yet but i did notice a vac pipe off the back of the duel ram unit at the front of the engine.

Could this be anything to do with the missing / flat spots around 1500 - 2000 rpm ?

hi all, the missing seems to be getting worse nowdays ......... anyway below 4000 rpm at the moment.
the hotter the enging gets the worse it gets !!
last week, after a quick ( fast ) run to grimsby. 70 mile round trip, it wouldnt rev past 4000 rpm till it cooled down abit  >:(

just done the paperclip test and all that came back other then the expected 31 was 135 ( checklight ? )

fuel consumption starting to drop now

other then plugs / leads / coil pack has anybody got any ideas.
this i realy starting to p*ss me of now !

all advise accepted
cheers    steve
