Parking Light Disconection ?
« on: 18 April 2009, 23:46:12 »

Who had the stupid idea of connecting the parking lights on the indicator stork ? and is there anyway of disconnecting it or making it so there is no power to it when the kays out, getting p*ssed of with flat battery in morning or having to go out at 1 at night to move the indicator stick !!

A lot of cars have it as started.  Certainly does away with having to but the light on the door glass and jam it in the window.

As for disconecting, sorry, I dont know.

I used to have the same problem with mine, now I go through a little routine as I get out.

Sunroof closed, Climate to off, side lights off.  Remove radio panel.  Then when I hear the cooling fans calm down, I do one final check for lights on the dash as I switch off and exit the car.

Your battery must be on its last legs the if it can't hack a couple of 5W lamps being left on for a few hours, even if it was all night. Look at the car as you walk away after locking it. ;)

I traced out the two wires in the boot which go to the sidelights. ( they have separate wires).

I then connected a cheap mechanical buzzer between them. Any normal time, they are both at 0V or both at 12V only when one is on and one is off does the buzzer sound. (ie. when you forget the flasher stalk!)

If you can't find a mechanical buzzer, then a cheap electronic one will do, but you will have to feed it through a bridge rectifier, to keep the polarity correct. (both available from Maplin)

On my car the  normal "lights-on" buzzer activates if you open the driver's door with the parking lights on.

I find them quite useful and leave them on whenever I'm parked in a street at night.  As said, a couple of watts of battery drain is neither here nor there

Face lift cars only, whether it's all of them or not I don't know. My 99 preface lift just has a lights on buzzer for main/normal lights, as does SWMBO's 52 Astra cos there's no parking light on it!  ;D

My 2000 tractor has the lights on buzzer, but not for the parking lights.  ::) Actually I like the idea, but it seems an easy job to rig a switch.
