Audio Question?
« on: 06 October 2009, 20:22:46 »

I have the CCR2006 in the car at the moment but would like to fit a more up to date stereo in the near future.

I would like to retain the use of the steering wheel controls and the MID.

I would like to play my mp3's either via disc or by memory card. Also I would like it to be Bluetooth capable for telephone calls and possibly my Tomtom 910.

I am not bothered about double or single DIN.

To retain the cars controls, what do I need as in cables?

Can anybody recommend a decent, reliable unit, which would be suitable (not silly money though  ;D)?

Also a good supplier?

Thanks for any input guys an gals  :y :y :y

Better branded stuff does have options of adapters for MID and steering wheel, but check the specific model first

It was truly crap. The removable facia was held on with Duck tape.

We digress. Back to the original question  ;) :y

I`m going to suggest (as always) to look at the Clarion units, in particular the CX609E for your requirements

However, I`m not aware of any double din unit that would also display on the MID though.

I have an original SC804 unit in my Omega MV6 1997. Please suggest a single DIN unit I can replace this with? How about the wiring loom? Do I have to re-wire everything or just incorporate it with the after market stereo? Will I lose the display on the MID if I do this?

I am not an audio whiz hence I will appreciate advise on this particular stereo unit and the speakers installed. Thanks.

Thats a nice easy one to install (plug and play) and would suggest to look at the Kenwood stereos that have "display out" capability as the extra interface (around £35) is significantly cheaper than others that may be able to connect to the MID (Sony or Alpine)

As said, pretty much any decent aftermarket head unit will do what you want.

Although you seem to dislike Sony, I've never had any problems with the car radios. Had many of them. They used to a £140 one at Hellfrauds that was Mp3/Bluetooth compatible.

Most major manufacturers will support the steering wheel controls, (with a £30-40 adaptor) but few units will support the MID and if you do find that is support, the price of the adaptor can be around £80. Which to me limits the possibilities.

As for the wiring, all headunits will have ISO wiring plugs on so it's pretty much a straight swap with whats there now. Remembering that you will need a fascia fitting to fill the hole properly.

Your better off fitting a 1940's record player.

I have an Alpine unit in mine (9854R) Looks nice, set the buttons to orange and it blends in fairly well. I have steering wheel control adpator fitted, never bothered with the MID, although you can get one for it.

You won't miss the MID. Alpine screen is better anyway. Its white text on a black background so does not light up the car too much at night like some other chavvy units.

Is it the blue and white wire you cut so the date is still displayed when the radio is on
