I think I made the same assumption when I first got my 1994 Omega.

I don't have it any more but I have a sneaking suspicion that the early handbook (or possibly just the way the symbol is drawn on the switch) gives one the firm impression that pressing that switch will repel hunchbacks with a sonic barrage....

Agreed - the logo does look similar to an intruder running away in panic, rather than thinking I`ll break the window as the sensors are disabled

However, Rusty, in view of your actual concern for the Missus in the car, there are devices and aftermarket panic buttons available and it may well be worth doing a bit of research on a few of them for some peace of mind - however, the most cost effective of them has got to be a permanent live supply to the horn switch so that a quick blast with anyone in the car can attract some attention very quickly

just looked in my manual and it says the button is to disable the sensors

well i tuck her into vauxhall yesterday and it's fixed now he read the vin number and my car was changed on requset by first owner to have a progressive alarm and panic button, so any way it is fixed now.
