Just heard a rumour from a very well respected insider source that Sony are going to be pulling out of In-Car Audio and they are currently laying off some of their Car Audio internal staff

 

I would imagine that this will not happen overnight, and there is probably a good amount of stock around for many many months to come.

If this is indeed true, I must say that I am not surprised - years ago, I was a devout Sony fan, but the build quality has gone rapidly downhill and they appear to be currently trading on the reputation of the name they made years ago.

 

TB - I know you had a dislike of Sony, but how the hell did you manage to pull that one off ?

Not played with Sony stuff recently, but a few years back I used to like there HU and Amps, assuming you hang some different speakers on the end,

Remember few years back Sony said they were pulling out of the Mobile Phone market and a short while later…… Sony Ericsson appeared, so maybe there hang on in there with someone else just hope it’s not someone like Amstrad.

Well Dave I never had problems with sony headunit and had quite a few of those.
Still have one now cdx gt730 in my car and works like a charm.
Although I NEVER heard anyone speaking good about their speakers and amps.
I guess TB will be speaking a few Japanese words on the forum soon

That's interesting. Sony have a major problem in the US with a class action being taken against them by owners of large screen projection TVs. Basically the technology was a flawed design and people bought extended warranties which they have lost a mint on.

I used to like their stuff about 20-30 years ago. Probably a case of the "dog having had its day".

On the upside, any bad Sony news makes me so happy  .  The thought of never hearing those 12 beeps everytime I tech2 a car with a chavvy sony xplode and turn off ignition....  ....ahhh, bliss.

I am a little worried - my HU is about 10 years old - I had it in my Carlton so that is how old it is.

I also bought a S/H CD changer.

What will it be like for spares in the future?

I have a sony radio in my car
I am not a sony fan and have always bought alpine gear  but my local tescos were selling off their car audio  and a got my sony head unit  for £70 quid  which i thought was a good price for a device with a DAB tuner and triple pre outs.
and as much as i hate to admit it its been totaly flawless
