Alarming!
« on: 05 January 2010, 09:54:15 »

Hi guys like others my 2001 2.6 alarm is going off randomly normally in the early hours. Both the siren and horn are going. I have noticed occasionally it bleeps 3 times when switched off.I suspect power sounder and would like to disconnect it to confirm, but not sure where it is or how to do it anyone let me know please. Can this be diagnosed by obd2 scanner. Thanks. :-?

Yes, the bleeps are a classic sign that the batteries in the power sounder are failing, and that the voltage is also dipping below the acceptable threshold during these cold winter nights.

Unplug the power sounder for now, and change the batteries as soon as you can, before too much corrosion and damage is caused by them internally leaking.

Disconnect the power sounder with the engine running,it saves the damn thing going off for 15 mins!

Not necessarily - if the batteries have leaked over the board and it is FUBAR then it may not actually behave as it should - either way have a blanket to wrap it in and a bucket to then leave at the end of the garden for an hour or so just in case
