Headlight reflector loose inside casing help plz
« on: 05 January 2010, 19:57:20 »

Hi all,

Ok 1999 omega cd estate, electric headlight adjusters,

Came to change main beam bulbs for some new fabby dabby 55w 100% brighter than any other lol so package say and at £17 a pair they better be.

Now i find the reflector on o/s is really loose as to the point i'm sure nothing is holding it at all,

question is can you reclip it in? or is it a new headlight totally, still waiting for my egay manual, carrier pigeon last seen heading for english channel lol,

has anyone got a PDF they can mail me please of the headlight so i can see if it can be reclipped.

thanks in advance

The adjuster inside is broken. Your new manual will tell you to just replace the whole thing anyway.
The clear lens will come off if you're careful with a knife & gently ease/cut through the black goo holding it to the headlight itself. I managed to succesfully glue mine with an epoxy glue although others haven't been as successful.

You can get the front lens off by using a hot air gun/hair dryer to warm up the black goo that holds the lens on. Then you'll find the bits that was the adjuster will fall out of the lamp assembly so be carefull! You can try gluing the bits back together but in my experience that didn't work very well. A mate of mine fabricated some from steel. They won't break ;D

I've got an original albeit brittle but whole adjuster. I've asked a friend who owns a machine shop to cost up fabrication in Aluminium ;)

Took my lights apart a few weeks back to try to fix this problem, fixed one of the adjusters with a cable tie the other one could'nt be fixed so left it. Called in at VX to get price on new adjusters, dont sell them but would sell me a new light for about £260 each, just hope i dont run into anyone cos the insurance would proberbly wright off the car for the cost of 2 head lights and a bummper. :'(
