Sometimes my wipers won't stop even when the stalk is in the off position. I have to turn on and off a number of times until it eventually stops. Sometimes it stops in the wrong place.

Car is a 2.2 petrol 2001.

Dodgy wiper stalk at a guess. Dave Marshall is breaking a 2.2 in the parts section

But if it's stopping on the screen where it wants, it could also be a dodgy park on the wiper motor itself .....  :-/  :-/

It could be Andy but if you very slowly move a good stalk between speeds you can stop the wipers anywhere on the screen. I'd try a different switch first personally

EDIT: Now I've come away and thought about it a bit I'm starting to agree with you Andy..... Check the auto-park gearing for grease/gunge. Clean it out carefully with switch cleaner and add a little PTFE spray and try it again.

Mine did the same and it was the park contacts on the motor.

Assuming it's the same as the Astra G's motor ( they look similar) the cover is riveted on. I drilled the rivets out and replaced with small self tappers.

I just chucked a second hand motor on. The one on mine was indeed riveted together and what was inside looked so nasty I binned it.

I assume the reed switches should have had a contact of sorts on them, mine were missing and working haphazardly on what was left. I removed the cover, bent the reed switches to put more pressure on the gear wheel and it worked fine for a few years till the wipre assembly was swapped when SWMBO's Astra was taken away

Mine didn't have reed switches. Just a couple of really mangled brass strips covered in grease on a plastic wheel rotating on a rivet. Didn't think it was worth trying to repair bodge.

Reed switch is perhaps an over exaggeration  As the wiper motor was off, it was a case of giving it a go, and as said it did last a couple of years. It was only swapped cos the rest of the linkage was worn, & there was another to swap it for.
