Arial roof mount 3.2 mv6 estate
« on: 02 July 2010, 20:47:49 »

I've got lousy reception on the radio it seems that the roof mount is faulty,if you move the arial about you can feel the insides moving. What are the three wires for? I know one is the coax, but what are the two black wires for?
Thanks  :)

The roof mount is for the satnav/carphone. The radio ariel is built into the rear window, and is generally crap on all omegas!

Incorrect, the op drives a late 3.2 MV6 Estate so no Sat Nav or Cell phone equipment installed, the twig on the roof is for FM radio reception. only the very early Mig Esates had the Aerial built into the rear tailgate de-mister window wiring.

The roof aerial on the estate combines radio and GSM (telephone) as the cars are prewired for phone.

The rear screen aerial on the saloons is usually fine if clean, it's the amp under the parcel shelf that can fail.

Quite a debate going on, but it must be roof mount as it's got coax lead. :o

From my slightly sleepy memory:-

Pop two caps off either side of rear upright trims up boot sides and remove Torx screws

Pull plastic trim from roof (rearmost of headlining) down and unclip from sides

Ease headlining down and use adjustable spanner to unbolt aerial from underneath.

Unclip blue connector from aerial tails to main aerial loom on O/S through gap

Yes on models equiped with navigation, other models look identical but don't have a GPS receiver in the base.

Something to do with the angle of the window i'm guessing.

Very useful  :y

Aerial is always better performing on the outside with a good ground plane at the highest point (anyone know where there is a big flat piece of metal on a car?  ;D)

Incidentally, Elite and MV6 estates (with tailgate spoilers) have an extra piece fitted between the whip and the base to allow the whip to pivot when the spoiler hits it as you open the boot. Still available from Prodrive I believe.
