LPG the estate

Its not a question of fuel costs, they are about the same on fuel. 22mpg  on the estate, 26 mpg on the 2.2

I fill up about once a month at the moment!

This is an 18% increase in fuel costs.  :y

Personally I would keep the estate, and spend a bit of money on it.

Get the climate fixed (essential with warmer months coming) and replace the shocks and springs all round.
Once they are changed you will find that it becomes a whole lot more entertaining to drive! :)

sell em both and buy a low mile manual 3.0  :o

Seriously - it would make more sense to keep the newer one, I cant believe i am suporting a 4 pot over a v6  :-X

That's what I would do. Fair bit more hassle though, cos then you have to sell two cars and buy another, then deal with the inevitable niggles that the new one brings.

As much as I thought even the 3.0 is a little underpowered in this size of car, given that choice I'd take the 2.2. Power is great and you can never quite have enough, but control and throwing it around near the limits on B roads is what makes driving fun, and for that you need a manual. Either that or throw a manual box in the 3.0 as mentioned -- you can pick up the parts for peanuts as the scrappies are full of them (they don't break so there's no demand for used manual boxes), if you can do the work yourself it can be converted for a little over £100! If I ever buy another Omega this route is a serious consideration as a way of getting a 3.2 that hasn't been thrashed on traffic duties and isn't poverty spec.

You know those big black round things we used to have before the advent of CD's? As they got older they used to get scatched & then used to stick in the same groove & repeat iteself over ...... used to stick in the same groove & repeat iteself over ..... used to stick in the same groove & repeat iteself over and we used to have to kick it to make it play to the end of the track.  :-/  :-/  :-/  :-/  :-/  ;D

Here's my idea ..

convert 2.2 for lpg.. Will be easier and cheaper..And better for long

runs..

And keep 3.0..For other times..

As you have two cars they will need service proportional to their share

of your mileage..But will not actually be same as two cars with high

mileages per day..

Another advantage is if one have problem you can switch to other so

you will not loose mobility on urgent cases..And the whole family will

have one ready under hand..

Only tax and mot will make you tired a bit..

Not really... kinda before my time too. Maybe that also explains why I still have full use of all 4 limbs without aches and pains, and why I still actually enjoy driving, rather than use it as a lowest effort method of transport :D

Thats a good point its had a LOT of work done, which makes it harder.

Both the 3.0 and 2.2 have tones of tread left on the tyres, Estate has had new shocks, themostat, cambelt done last year at the brackley party, just done the brakes and rad last weekend.

Someone mentioned a good point... the 2.2 is worth a lot more currently and its only going to go down.

 :-/ :-/ :-/

I need to get the multi-rams and heating fixed... maybe a trip to Nottingham is in order  ;)

Can sort you out pretty much any bits you need for the 3.0 v6 mate, even have an A/C compressor here if you need one or an entire multiram...parts are pretty cheap, go on you know you want the estate!! More practical and a great drive when its all sorted properly :)
