hi all recently posted about a squeak/creaking/groaning noise which happens when turning the steering wheel, but only when the car warms up, never does it when it has cooled down, i followed elite petes advice and changed the pas fluid (dex 11) several times until i have got to stage of bright red fluid , but as you can guess it is still doing it     what i have noticed though is that this only happens at low speed, which i understand is when the pas is at full assist?? i tried at speed (as safe as i could)  turning the wheel from side to side and no noise , so what i am assuming is that the pump is on its way out and struggling on full assist would like some confirmation if at all possible and if it is the pump do i buy new or what ?? and how much it would be spprox?

i really need confirmation that this sort of noise i am experiencing is a symptom of the pump on its last legs, another question would be will any pas pump across the omega range fit or is it car related as mine is the 2.5 petrol

In my limited experience, pump doesn't make a noise when suffering the common 'no assistance at low revs'. First you know is when it happens.

I think, the pump by its nature, is noiser on full lock.

yup i understand that tb  but surely the pump is working harder at low speeds (more assistance) that is my reasoning that the pump could be on its way out, elite pete checked all the steerage linkage etc and that all seems fine, the only thing not checked is the plastic bushes in the steering column itself, but the noise seems to be coming from nearside somewhere

When someone has problems with their car and someone who charges for working at cars, offers to fix it for them on the thread, How is that different to from someone informing someone they have a part which they may require ?

My only experience with creaks and steering is either loose wishbone bolts, totally collapsed rearward bush allowing the wishbone to rub on sub frame bracket, or loose subframe bolts..... doesn't seem entirely relevant but might be worth a check...? Aux pulley greased? All pulleys checked with aux belt off?

I have the same problem mate! On tick over mine is like a tank and no assistance, put a few revs on, all is fine. I know all the belts are fine as Wellung666 has just serviced mine including all new belts and tensioned!
I've been led to believe my pump is coming close to the end

PAS pumps only work at full chat when you hold the steering wheel against the end stop.

normal steering - maybe 40 psi
full lock - 1500 psi

the servotronic system merely bleeds off some of that 40 psi under certain circumstances, the pump sees exactly the same load in either case.

Inside the pump, there's a constant-flow valve, which could be failing.

try jacking up both front wheels and working the steering from lock to lock a few times (engine running), being sure to hold it against the travel stops at each end - you'll hear the extra load in the engine note change. That'll tell you if the pump cannot supply the pressure (rare) and/or bleed any remaining air from the system

Recently, it has become a farce. There have been numerous cases where parts are being offered long before any diagnosis has been completed.

The admin team are discussing this, because IMHO the current situation cannot continue.

Again, IMHO, services and parts fall into the same category, and should not be offered in help areas, and certainly not before any diagnosis has been done.

In this case, it seemed everyone was offering pumps long before it was diagnosed as a pump. A crazy situation.

I didnt see what was posted after my post before it got deleted.I simply said, "if it turns out you need a pump, I have one here".
Didnt see that as hard selling tbh, but I will try to remember not to do it in future.

2woody that is exactly what happens if I go to full lock,either way, the engine note drops drastically, so I take it pump is fubared ?

I'd say that's normal, I.E. the pump is much more heavily loaded against the lock stop, so the engine note drops.

If the pump was tired, it would be giving its' all just turning the wheel and you wouldn't get that increase in load at the lock stop.
