A lot, but they aren't most expensive, in fact only home brand Sava and a few cheapo brands of winter tyres cost 20 to 30 e less per corner. Last year first left tyre on my previus car "exploded" when going 85 mph on motorway, so.....never again cheap tyre or older than 3 years. But it's a lot of money and it really hurts

I noticed recently that mytyres.co.uk are selling winter tyres ready mounted on steel wheels (perfect for the terminally lazy, such as myself) - I'm sorely tempted to get a set (£460, ouch) as they keep forecasting -20C for the winter, +3C for the weekend and so on, yet every time I look at the forecast it says 18C..

Better do something soon, though, I noticed the rears are practically bald today  :-[ that definitely won't work well in the snow!

Yeah, I'm going to have to have a concerted effort to wear mine down before it snows, too. ::)

I bet you wont regret paying that money..I have 2 different winter sets for 2 cars and never regret buying them..

a simple slide or loosing control will cost much more than that.. and I dont count the confidence feeling.. :y

I didn't have to try all that hard - then again they were on the car when I got it, and that was 8K ago.. I really need to get up to Chesham and get the alignment sorted out, though (and do the wishbones) before throwing new rubber on it - the fronts are starting to go on the inside and outside shoulder (more on the inside, though). Or maybe I just drive it too hard  :-X

I suppose I'll end up buying a set of both - I don't really want to stick winter rubber on it while it's still >15C out and dry.. that'd ruin my fun  ;D

I had winter tyres fitted on omega when I bought her. Maybe worn to 4mm some brand called Maloya cresto....no uphill allowed ;D , just spining in circles and drifting and not going anywhere >:( I'm thinking about putting some weight (100kg) at the back + new winter tyres, hope it will work out fine

While being booted up for Nexens locally, I asked about winter tyres. I thought of popping some on my old CD alloys, but said if I drop it down a size to 15" and use steel wheels, full winter tyre could be had for £75 each. So looking to do that myself & scrounge some steelies from somewhere!

You would benefit from using a smaller rim anyway, I'd have thought. Smaller footprint on the road will cut through the snow better.

The ones I was looking at were 195/65, as you say, considerably narrower (and better on snow/ice/water/slush/etc) :) Not quite £75 a piece with the wheels, mind (although there are some very cheap winter tyres, I was discounting those as they're probably as sticky as liquorice wheels  ;D)
