Digging up an old thread.. Seems I have a relevant update.

As per my other thread, I'm doing my cambelt. Whilst turning the engine by hand, I decided to do it laying on my back, as that's where I was at the time, and just happened to notice a noise. From the back of the engine, so I repositioned and turned it and listened, erm, it sounds like it's coming from inside the bellhousing maybe between that and the autobox main lump, it sounds like a ticking sort of noise, imagine a short piece of ratchet tie against a toothed gearwheel, "tctctctctctctctc" as you turn the engine. Quiet noise, maybe relevant. But I don't think the bottom ends in danger which is the main thing IMO  :y
