   Any advise on how to remove the crankshaft pulley bolt from my granddaughter's Rover 25
Have tried putting into top gear with brake peddle pressed, didn't work got it soaking in release oil at the moment.  Thanks

If you have access to a windy gun use it to do it, if not
usual disclaimers apply here this post is only for advice, im not telling you to do it this way!!

put socket on breaker bar and rest bar on chassis or subframe etc anywhere strong, after yiou have checked direction of rotation of course then just flick the key to goose the starter motor into turning slightly, obviously disable the engine from starting!!, this method has never let me down except on a honda!! as it runs the other way!!

windy gun. the "other" method as said is well risky especially if you try it on a motor without a keywayed pulley.

I would say you need to firmly lock the crankshaft or, better still, the pulley.

If the pulley is a 2 part pulley and damper as in the Omega, make a bracket to bolt up to one of more of the bolt holes on the pulley and somewhere on the block. Once it's solidly locked, it will be easier to remove the bolt with a breaker bar.

If you can't lock the front end of the crank, remove the starter motor and see if you can wedge something in the ring gear.

There is a proper cranklock for K series engines. I clamps on engine block and locks into flywheel.

A short piece of stout angle-iron wedged against the ring gear and the engine  has always been effective on anything I've ever tried. Doesn't require the engine to be in a car either. Makes the windy gun/breaker bar more effective too.

Thanks for the advice, it's off now. Took starter motor off and locked ring gear then used battery powered (windy couldn't think what to call it) gun, which didn't work, got it off with a very big breaker bar. When pulley was off the locating lug on the crank shaft sprocket was sheared off, looks like who ever had been working on the car before had sheared it off then put the pulley back on and then over tightened it to keep it in place. When I checked timing marks were way out.
    New sprocket to order , hope old one comes off easy
