Neighbours 1.8 Vectra, cam belt almost, but not quite, shredded through, rollers, tensioners and water pump fine.

did a friends 1.6 vectra cambelt, tensioners and water pump a few weeks ago. water pump shaft was so worn you could literally wiggle it about..luckily got to it before it destroyed the belt or belt jumped

Further to this saga, his garage fitted a new cambelt kit + water pump last week.

As he drove it away, he noticed the engine management light was on, took it back, they ran diagnostics and said it might be the cam sensor, reset it, and told him it was OK to drive.

Stayed off until yesterday, he rang them and they told him to bring it in on Monday, still saying it was OK to drive.

Set off to see his girlfriend last night - about an 80 mile round trip, within 3 miles the cam belt let go!
