Misfire developing.
« on: 30 November 2011, 22:59:13 »

Just noticed tonight a misfire is starting to occur, it's doing it after gearchanges for a few seconds, maybe half a dozen times within a few seconds. I had noticed it this last few days but only as like a one-off between shifts, I dismissed it at the time but just a moment ago, I couldnt ignore it! I noticed water drips from the scuttle down onto the coilpack area so I suspect it's my coilpack starting to break down, how easy a job is it to do and is this the likely cause?

It had new plugs last week and runs fine 99% of the time.

3.0 v6 btw :)

Could be ......  :-\ :-\ :-\
The DIS pack on mine was obviously fubar'd when  you saw it. The coils rust & expand their way out of the resin/plastic casing. It was a long time ago when I did mine, but I seem to remember removing the scuttle (plenum is easy to remove & would probably help) It's held by 4 Torx headed bolts for which I used a normal 8mm 1/4 drive socket. Not really that difficult, just awkward .......................

...... you'll need a box of plasters  ::) ::) ::) ::)

I hate awkward!! How does the scuttle remove? I haven't looked closely yet.
It now misfires on idle so it's getting worse between each time I pull over, hope I make it home!
I also just remembered, yesterday I got caught in an immense downpour, so with the water dripping through, making me further suspect the coilpack. I'll try and source one  :y

It's bound to be in a maintenance guide somewhere, but there's a Torx headed self tapper at the driver's end & a handfull of 1/2 turn fasteners under the rubber trim at the bottom of the screen, it comes out in two pieces (held together by washer hose if it's a facelift) :y

Aaahhh, easy! I'll have a look another time, all my car efforts need to go into the cav at the mo as I'm using it this weekend for a pub meet with the o.c., so will get on it some other time, thanks :)

Update; it's quite bad now. Idles like a really lumpy v8  ;D also has spluttery moments under acceleration. The car behind me is probably shutting off it's injectors and running on MY unburned fuel, lmao!!

As I don't quite have 250 posts (just short) hence I can't post in the relevant section, either someone near Huntingdon, Cambs OR in the Cannock area (I'm up that way this weekend for a pub meet) have one I can buy/collect? (DIS modlue for a 3.0 v6)

If so please pm with a price  :D

Been there...

I had the same an won't bother to tell you all the things I did including changing the coil pack.  I just couldn't believe there was anything wrong with the LEADS!  Eventually changed the leads... problem solved.  There's a bit of work stripping to change the coil pack but I'm sure it wasn't quite so bad just changing the leads.

A tip I read afterwards was:  get somewhere dark () and look under the bonnet whilst the engines running and look for arking.  (keep hands and loose clothes out of the way especially in the dark).  you might spot arking from one of the leads, away from the diss.  How old are the leads?

Those scuttle seals are a pain in the neck, it's just a piece of sponge :) from inside the scuttle I squeezed a load of sillicone in and around the joint and did the same on the engine compqartment side, then on the same side I sealed up the joint with a couple of strips of Denso tape, no water gets through it now, it was so bad before the plug wells on that side were full of water and like Andy B said the dispack was fubard.
