diff drain and fill plug sealant

Not for an Omega, but is there a recommended goo to smear the threads when you change oil in a diff.? The vehicle I am going to work on clearly has had something applied.

Diff plugs are sometimes a tapered fit

no goo is required

could be something in the diff oil

And if not tapered, I'd expect them to seal with a copper/fibre/alu washer..

Did someone just whack a load of pipe dope (white PTFE/yellow goo) on it previously, perhaps?
