It was a challenging trip. I made several Lebanese acquaintances ( Lebanese are quite dominant in business in parts of West Africa).
During a mission "up country" I came across representatives of the Islamic Jihad Organisation and was "trusted" to the extent that the release of Terry Waite was discussed. He was held from 1987 to 1991 and this meeting I refer to took place in 1989. My last visit to Sierra Leone was 1991 after which there was a brutal civil war for those who have watched blood diamond.
I will try and find the photos of the Bedford MK 4 x4s but have not seen those photos for years.
I also had a Range Rover and a Safari Land Rover in the fleet - as you could not keep the vehicles running easily with the state of the roads. We once broke down (wife and kids in vehicle) at night in middle of nowhere when the Safari hit a huge puddle - the driver had insisted on taking his mate on the trip - turned out his mate was a mechanic and fixed everything (well dried out plugs).
My wife was on Fun in the Sun in 1989 (I think that was title) filmed in Sierra Leone.
