Hi all, this is my first thread here! I'm not native English speaker so I'm sorry if I get something wrong.

I've just become an owner of 2003 Omega 2,5 DTI Y25DT. I'm very happy overall but there's some stuff that needs fixing.

First (and most annoying), tacho & speedo are more often not working than they are. Other dials (temp, fuel, odometer and all MID functions are working OK). I've noticed that when they're not working, the speedo needle vibrates rapidly around 0. Sometimes they work just fine, but that's about 1 in 20 times. I've tried pushing the dashboard strongly inwards, but that didn't make any difference.

I've read here somewhere that this type of fault is often related to ABS which brings me to my second question. My ABS light never comes on but the system itself works as it should. When i stamp the brakes, I can feel it's doing its thing but the light doesn't come on. Also, when on ignition, light also doesn't light up. I suspect this to be a simple blown bulb, but since I've heard ABS and tacho & speedo faults can be connected I mentioned it just in case.

I have a few other questions regarding quite different problems so I'll post them later in some other thread. One thing at a time. :)

ABS ECU failing,or possibly ABS/wheel speed sensors failing. Needs diagnostics to ascertain for certain.Bulb may have blown or been removed to disguise fault.

Firstly replace the bulb in the dash for the ABS and refit the clocks properly. If that doesn't cure the tacho/speedo problem then you will need to get the fault codes read.

Unlikely to be either the ABS/TC ECU or speed sensing ABS sensor matey as they wouldn't affect the tacho ;) :y

Remove the instrument panel and check the connections, you will probably find that on re-fitting it goes back better (suspect somebody before you has removed it and not fitted it very well)

I've removed the instrument panel today, it definitely seems like it's been messed with before. I found two suspicious spots (see pics), but I'm not sure they're really causing the problem. The rest of the leads seem ok. Also, I've checked the ABS bulb, and it looks perfect, I have no idea why it isn't working. I didn't have enough time to try swapping it with some of the others, will try that another time.

Unfortunately, upon refitting (and everything is 100% in its place and screwed well) tacho & speedo are still not working (speedo vibrating around zero).  :(
Any suggestions? Do you think that the suspicious spots are to blame, can it be fixed?

Also, is it normal that there are no bulbs at all in spots that are meant for seatbelt light (not airbag, that one works as it should) and trailer turn signal?

Update:

I've taken out the dashboard again today and fixed the ABS light. As suspected, it was a simple bulb/contact problem and now it lights up as it should. Speedo & tacho are still having a mind of their own. For example, they worked fine for the last two days, and today they don't work again.

Here's a video I took, maybe someone notices something I don't.

I'd guess that there is a damaged track on the circuit... I had similar symptoms when I managed to damage the track on one of mine :-[ ::)
