In order to do the dispak i have taken a few steps that could be useful for some to note , im no expert by any means but when the jobs got to be done on a budget needs must ....God knows how much a garage would charge for this let alone vx 

First off un hook the bonnet rams and wedge the bonnet up high ....helps a lot .



More pics will be laoded as i continue but this is where the PIG dispack is lurking . I tied the cables and pipes out the way with bungee cords for better access .





After much cursing and removing the bolts holding it in it came out and looked like this 


why its rusted up like this and split is a mystery 


It is a bosch and probably the original so guess its lasted as long as it could 


Im still waiting for the new dispak to arrive but ill take some more pics and hope it all helps if anyone is going to try and do the job .
I never removed the plenum but can see you would gain a bit more access , i kneeled up on top of the engine and took plenty of breaks .

You may need a box of plaster's or 2

It gets in that state because the scuttle frequently leaks at the centre join which is inconveniently almost directly above the Dis Pack! Check to see if the soundproofing material below the scuttle is wet & if so dry it out, then run a good bead of clear silicone sealant between the join on the scuttle and also around the wiper spindles where they come through the scuttle

Good idea phil , ill check that on reassembly . But the pack surely is made to be water tight and should not do this ? Anyway like its been said it will make a good door stop

As  said above...position of dispack is in the direct line of fire for water off the windscreen ,and unless the scuttle is well sealed and water can be diverted into the drains at each end it will happen again albeit to get into that state will take a fair while.

Its just one of those typical Omega issues  ...but well done getting it off and good idea about the bonnet

That tip was given by dan-eboy and thought i would put into practice , thanks for the well done . Just thought it might come in handy anything i can help with for others

Hence why I rarely ever remove the scuttle for any jobs......as re-fitting and keeping it sealed can be challenging. As they left the factory they are generaly pretty good.

Thanks ken , picking up the new dispak tomorrow so i still have to re fit and try it , could be working on it most of the night as needing the car wed morning

Removing the bonnet struts!!!! Don't bother you don't have to see it to remove it.  An 8mm deep socket helps

I just popped the ball sockets from the bonnet itself , didn't remove the struts  Only one real problem bolt holding the dispak down was the next to the cyl bank corner tight against the metal shroud so 2 small extensions on the ratchet plus a knuckle joint with 8mm socket did the job from the top . Dispak came out no problem through the gap i made by moving out all the pipes and connections around it
