Ah well ............
« on: 06 February 2012, 22:18:28 »

Well I got the cdc3 fitted into the unit, which was actually pretty straightforward with the guide  :y
The door at the front of the cd was a different story  :o
Eventually got it sorted, all in one piece, and finally got round to fitting it tonight.
It all powers up, and the cassette and radio work fine. It searches through the magazine for discs, which I presume is normal, but won't eject  :-[
It goes through the motions and attempts to eject the magazine, but it only comes out a tiny bit. Can't decide whether or not the eject system is shot, or the magazine is stuck, but don't want to try and force it anyway.
I used the guide purely to fit the cd, so will have to revisit it for a potential fix if even possible?
Can't change the circuit board so I'm hoping it's something else, and really easy ................. yeah right!!!!!

I don't know Rob. The magazine was in the unit when I got it, so I haven't been able to load any discs yet.  :-[

After faffing about with the fascia it`s common for the cartridge to only partly eject, have you tried grabbing the white "disc eject" tab and pulling the cartridge out. What you don`t want is to have "CDC SAFE" or "ERROR" on the display when you press the CD button :(

A little bit. Wasn't entirely sure that's what it was for actually, so I'll give it another go. Hard to grab though, may need some grips, which I suppose could damage it too. Was concerned that it was catching on something.

On the display the unit searches for the discs in each tray, there has been no error message, so to speak.

If you`re saying when you press eject the cartridge tries to come out, you could try a small electrical screwdriver and give it a "helping hand". Failing that, it`s CDC3 out, top off, and manually remove cartridge, easy enough

Yes its trying! Maybe try a few tools tomorrow, but good to know I can remove it manually, from the inside. Not looking forward to taking the HU out of the dash again tho!

Turned the unit on this morning on the way into work. Still unable to eject, and no real error messages, but it does say 'CDC OPEN' on the display intermittently whilst checking the discs. Would this be normal?
Thanks

Should display that message when CD flap is open

'CDC OPEN' flashed on and off the whole way home from work. No matter how much I tried to ignore it, it was bloomin annoying!
Anyway, using small pliers and the white tab on the magazine I was able to get it out! Hurray  ;D
Ran into the house and grabbed the first four CDs I could find. An interesting ensemble  ::)
And it works  :D
I'll need to sort the warning message though. IIRC when fitting the door, the extension on the back of it made contact with a micro switch on the circuit board. I suspect the problem lies here and may need to find a way around it. Worried though that this is also how the unit knows to eject the magazine. Does anyone know by chance, before I start re disassembly  :-\
Thanks

There is indeed a small microswitch on the back of the fascia that is operated by a fragile and breakable arm on the door flap.

Incorrect operation of this switch can lead to a CDC OPEN message and cartridge not loading / ejecting correctly.

And for anyone reading, Flaps are no longer available if your has broken

I'm not sure I could live with the flashing of the warning, so I'll have to check the switch operation.

I haven't taken the unit out of the dash again (pity it can't be tested out of the dash  :-\) but the magazine seems to eject whether the door is open or not, so it's not dependant on the arm of the door hitting the micro switch. At the same time, the CDC open warning is on whether the door is open or closed. I suppose if the arm of the switch, as activated by the door, is stuck in the open position, that might explain it? Or if this switch was open, would the magazine not load?
