GM went to the 5W30 fully synthetic oils late in the production life of the Omega to extend the service intervals. So that oil is perfectly suited.

However, I like to oil service the car well within the old service interval, so change the oil every 3-4k, and therefore the extra cost over 10W40 semi is not worthwhile, IMHO.  I am of the opinion that I'd rather change the oil more regularly with a cheaper (but still very good quality) oil, rather than less often using an expensive premium oil.

So as said, dexos2 will be absolutely fine. Especially in Bishop Aukland. :)

If it ever gets to 40ºC here .. I'm moving to the Shetlands!  ;D

"5W-30 Pros and Cons
  • The pros of 5W-30: It is best for operating in cold climates, and it tends to give slightly better engine protection. The cons of 5W-30: It might not be suitable for vehicles that operate in hot climates, and it is not the best option for vehicles that are involved in frequent city driving (stop and go) or vehicles that frequently haul heavy loads

 10w30 is different

 "10W-30 Pros and Cons

  •   The pros of 10W-30: It is a better choice for vehicles that operate in hot climates; it is a better choice for stop-and-go driving; and it is a better choice for vehicles that frequently haul heavy loads. However, it is not as good as 5W-30 when used in extremely cold climates
