Brother and sister in law tell a terrible tale, but if what they say, and they have one, is right then they would never sell..... Can they really be that bad?

What would you buy instead of an Omega? if you did not want a Merc, Audi or BMW?...............

Having a clutch replaced is a subframe off job plus a large bill apart from that like every other car you might buy it depends on lady luck if you get a lemon.
My most costly car was the tractor I had bought it for £900 end up spending £1800 to fix it

With Vectra's it seems you either get a very good one like the one we had before it was written off or one like a friend had which seemed a genuine Friday afternoon car and spent more time in the garage than on the road. Fortunately it was covered by waranty.
I think you pays your money and takes your chance.
Have a look at VVOC they were helpful when I had mine but that was before I found OOF

no they are not that bad, but its the same with any marque of car you get good ones and bad ones, aslong as the maintence is kept up any car can be a good car, i know have the 3.2 elite

Had 3 vectras , 2 been reliable esp the 2.5 manual .. however the 2.0 estate i had was costly needing the head skimmed , rear suspension bushes are a pain to replace . Guess it depends on your luck the same with any car , i would have another as a second car as long as it was cheap enough

I have had two vectras.  The steering wheel may as well have been an optional extra.

They don't handle well, I found the seats a lot less comfortable than the Omega (but not too bad in comparison with similar levels of car) but my Vectra C (2.0 DTi) was hugely reliable. I put 60k on it in about 20 months and it needed nothing other than normal servicing and consumables

Would I buy another... Not unless I was desperate The handling was a huge let down. The Cavalier was a pretty good car in it's day and the Vectra just doesn't do corners at any great speed

Vectra-C is OK if you toddle about, but goes straight for the ditch a bit unpredictable if thrown into a corner at speed. The smaller engined ones aren't too bad for comfort, but the powerful ones just shake my fillings out, way too hard.

Vectra-B I reckon is the better handling, and better comfort, but really is quite cramped.

I think they are fine for a normal driver with no particular special handling requirements. The Design and SRI have the harder sports suspension and the longer wheelbase on the estate I think is an advantage. As a motorway car they are pretty good and reasonably quiet in diesel format - my experience is based on signum which is built on Vectra estate chassis.

Only issue has been the dmf in a diesel version which is expensive if not under warranty. The Signum is the nearer replacement for the Omega except it is designed 4 seats with large rear passenger doors. Nothing like to Omega to drive.

With a trade club card and a reaonable labour resource should be cost effective motoring.

done 90 000 in a vectra c...yep ok if you are into toddling around....give it some welly and you are a passenger as it goes where it wants...and that is'nt always where you want to be...tbh it didnt give any problems...and the estate is a very good load lugger

Thanks peeps, you have confirmed what Brother in law said about handling, and swmbo tends to throw the Omega at corners I find it hard to believe she has never lost the back end.....

Then you should have replace the flexible joint at the bottom of the steering coupling, stock fault and about 20 minute job to do. If it was that bad did you have an MOT ?

I had a 2.2 DTi Vec C before the Omega and it was great. 50mpg all day, 200,000 miles at least (had been clocked twice) and needed nothing other than regular servicing but the clutch really needed changing. Throw some 2 stroke oil in the tank on every fill up to give the pump a bit more lubrication and you're laughing. Handling as standard was a bit naff but I had mine on Supersport coilovers on the front and Eibach 30mm springs on the back and it flew round corners with no trouble at all, much better than the Omega does.

If you find a good one, they're great. Just watch out for trouble on the CDTi engines if you look at Vec Cs.
