What am i missing here...? Why do we need an app for this? What's the difference between this and logging on to your own banks web site via mobile device web brouser same as on a pc etc.

And htf does this get on the national news ?

Are BMW drivers taking over the world? It's just Internet access. Do they think we're that thick we need an "app" for that. "App", I hate that word, how wan*y is that. Do BMW drivers need an app to drive? Ffs.

Or is there a security side to this?

"App", I hate that word, how wan*y is that.

It's one of a handful of words that make me twitch involuntarily. Like "cuisine".

whopsee doo,   so barstardleys bank is catching up with tw/-\t west  ,   who's mobile app could do this months ago......

to be honest though,

much as this might sound a bit gay,.

I find the NatWest iPhone app MUCH handier than logging on to the computer, especially when i don;t happen to be at home..... and i need to move money around,  pay a bill,  check balances, top up one of the kids PAYG mobiles,  etc etc......      but even when i AM home, i'll more often use the phone app, than log on to their site on the lappie.     it's just much simpler, quicker, and easier to use.....

Max, that's not Eden what it's for though ::) It's for sending payments to an account linked to a mobile number ;)

Personally I think it's a good idea, in principle, but I wouldn't have said it was worth of national news  ::) I wish they had spent the time and money developing a proper account access app instead ::)

Electronic money has been around in various forms. A mate of mine was working on it back in the early '90's. Never caught on, and doubt it will now. Nothing quite like some folding in your pocket. ;)

Then again, maybe, now they've called it an "app" all the BMW drivers will lap it up? ;D

I'm with MaxV6 on this, I do like my bank's iPhone app. Quick, simple, does what it does very well. Can't set up a new payee though - that has to be down via normal website.

My bank, same as MaxV6's, is owned by chrisgixers favourite financial company :P

I like 'universal gift vouchers' or 'pictures of the queen'. It gives a 'value' to buying stuff - they is something harder handing over £50 in folding than flicking over a bit of plastic to be swiped...  ...it gives a reality, if that makes sense.

Obviously, when it comes to distance buying, then pound notes become inconvenient...

yup casinos have known that for years,  easy to throw in a plastic chip than the monetary value of said chip  :y

What's the difference between this and logging on to your own banks web site via mobile device web brouser same as on a pc etc.
Some mobile browsers won't present themselves correctly from a user agent point of view, and then there is also the issue that some sites will require extra plugins such as Flash (again, not all mobiles support Flash).
I've not personally encountered any issues when accessing secure sites using the Galaxy SII browser and having the user agent set to either IE or Chrome, however I do get a login failure on one or two sites if I have the user agent set to Android, iPhone, or iPad.

And htf does this get on the national news ?
The government are probably slipping in yet another needless law behind our backs, and pointless stories such as this work quite well as a distraction technique.

Do BMW drivers need an app to drive? Ffs.
Based on what I see sometimes, I'd say that most of them do  ;D

Or is there a security side to this?
Well it won't run on a rooted handset, so that seems the logical answer for now.

There in lies some of my annoyances re browsers Martian. If the browser can't cope with Internet pages of any sort then it's not worthy of the name. Crapples flash issue being a main one, ESP as flash is available on all other apple devices except iPad and iPhone.

Then theres the inference that somehow we weren't able to bank on a mobile device until we had an (cr)app. An incomplete app at that, as said above. Can we not just make the Internet work correctly? Too much to ask it seems.
Ok, screen size is an issue, but we can't expect pages to be as easily viewable. Some zooming etc is bound to be needed.
My step dad was a BMW owner. Couldn't wire a plug, but knew everything. I cought him out so many times. Salt and pepper grinders he bought, "very good these, had them ages now, work brilliantly" as he placed them back on the table, I tried them, twist the top, no salt coming out at all, hold it higher up and twist..."nope, no salt at all...????" examination reveals the makers sticker still covering the entire base of BOTH salt and pepper grinders. ;D completely full of salt and pepper of course. ;D

Another time, we're in the car. Boiling hot day. He goes out before the journey to start the car "to cool it down" .... I'm imediately suspicious, this is an usually sensible approach... We get in the car 5mins later, windows open, engine on, fans flat out, but the car is still sweltering. "oh, I thought you'd come out to turn the ac on?" "it hasn't got ac" must have ac surely? "no, I read all the instructions and manuals, no ac" oh really? .... What's that snow flake button on the dash...?" as I lean through from the back to press it. Bing! Instant cold air... ;D. Mum gave him a right good glare ;D

He loved his Anroid touch desire, "great phone". Not the first clue how it worked beyond texting ;D

Maybe that explanes it..? ;D
