Following on... ...Zafiras
« on: 10 September 2015, 20:09:49 »

Following on from the other thread....

Seem to be either loathed by their owners or "quite liked" in a utilitarian kind of way.

Why is it like Marmite?

Call mine the enough car.  Dont love it, dont hate it.  Does what it says on the tin

zab b 2008 1.9 cdti (150)

Big enough
Comfy enough
fast enough
economical enough
enough toys
practical enough
reliable enough

So therefore suits our needs well

With my daughter where it was used for the school run and the schools are about 10 miles from where she lives, reliability was an important factor and it wasn't. :(

IMO not very comfortable or refined and the one she had definitely not reliable! The one plus for its size where she had the 7 seater, was its practicality.

They are in my opinion awful. But I can see why someone may want one for practical reasons. I think though the worst type are the ones with the 'vxr' look (there may even be a vxr version?). That would be like turbo charging a suitcase.

I feel in a few years I maybe forced into one of these, but the Zaf-C due to it's 3 "Proper" seats in the back row. But this won't be for 2-3 years, so for now the 3.2 stays as our family bus.

Sister-In-Law (to be) has Zaf-C, the boot does look a decent size and fully loaded up with 3 kids they can haul a good amount of stuff.

Good thing about Zaf-C is potential for continued DIY service too, but nothing else about them appeal. They don't look that great, they don't look that comfy either.

I'd much rather get a Volvo XC90, but that would have to be a diesel and lots of town work would kill it.  :(

You need to be aware of the seat changes as you move up the range.

I wouldnt consider one of the school run special bog standard models, but once you get to design / elite level the seats are fine.

I have perforated leater bucketish seats and they are perfectly supportive for my ample frame for hours at a time.

I think the sis-in-law is bog standard, seats look identical to these...

The Elite ones do look better...

Still prefer an XC90 though  :)

I loath mine. I have the 1.8. To me it feels unrefined and I don't like the van like driving position or manual gearboxes (in general). I dont think there are enough toys in the Elite model either. I find the third row seats a pain in the butt to fold in/out, especially if you have a baby seat. I hate the interior, its full cheap plastic and even the carpet feels horrible to step on and thats with shoes on!

Reliability has been ok though. Hasn't left me stranded or cost huge amounts for repairs. Serek recently replaced the oil cooler on mine due to a minor external leak and that has been the only expense on mine (excluding the huge depreciation during one year of ownership  >:().

As many know, I have had one for some years.

Its just turned 145k miles (I have put 136k miles on it) and has not missed a beat, about the only thing its needed other than service items is rear springs and an injector (which are cheap).

Its comfortable and drives ok, handling is actually surprisingly good.

Its big enough, it goes well enough, its very very reliable and cheap to run, when we bought it I actually tried all the competition and its the only vehicle that does all things to a decent standard.

You can't say that on here, Mark! You can't say that it's practical, reliable, cheap to buy and cheap to run. It does everything a family-transporter cum load-lugger is supposed to do and is the most popular and best selling of this type of vehicle. Parts are readily available and reasonably priced.

No...you can't say that because someone will have had a problem with theirs and, therefore, every other one must suffer from the same problem. People will have probably read, on the Internet, just how horrible they are. They don't feel at all like one costing ten grand more...oh no.

It's the same with Renaults....nay....all French cars. Shite, the lot of them.
