Well simplistically, it needs

Air
Fuel,
Spark,
Compression

You have air, you have fuel, and you have spark - compression test it  :y

ahh .. but all must occur at the correct time .. does this have the equivalent of our crank sensor ??? ...

Just a thought ..  :)

Crossed my mind but didn't post it, due to the lack of a fault code. But, you're right....

Crank sensor was my initial thought, but no codes.

I have heard elsewhere cranksensors can be faulty with no code  :-/

should have no rpm signal as not running.  no rpm signal is non conclusive on non runner.

Cheers, there was a faulty lubrication nozzle on a range of chain 2.2's causing chain snappage.

father in law says pullys moving, so doesnt think its chain.

Wouldn't think so - at least, not at the right times?

I would think you would know by the starter motors tone when its cranking over if the chain has snapped?

Can you remove the oil filler cap and look for the camshaft turning?
