FAO people with OE brake pads
« on: 09 April 2012, 19:17:05 »

I have been having a chat with chrisgixer regarding the OE pads and one thing led to another and I sent him a picture of mine and he sent me one of his (not what it sounds like   ;D)

mine:

chrisgixers:

As you can see from the pictures his pads have riveted shims on all 4 pad and the shims come round the edge of the pad to keep it away from the caliper (and reducing squeal) and mine look like TC pads. Can some who has the OE pads post a picture of the back of the pads, please?

Chris mentioned Mark DTM and Jimbob tried the OE pads and couldn't tell the difference whereas he noticed a major improvement over TC pads. Could this be why?

All mine are the same as Chris's (all 3 sets I have :) )

Mine are all old GM stock (and bought at dirt cheap clearance prices), should that make a difference

My GM pads which came out of mine even though they were marked GM didn't have a anti squeal shim. I was a little shocked as the after market pads I did fit did have the shim fitted.

Here's another pic I found, shows the shims covering the edge more clearly.

Also to clarify my pic in SMD's post at the top. The 2 pads at the top of the pic are tc. Oe are the 4 at the bottom.

Clearly, the numbers are Differant between my oe, and SMD's. Anyone know the significance of the numbers...?

I hope there is a simple explanation but my fear is this may be the new version of the OE pads  :(

Right!

All three of ours have OE pads fitted and they have the rear shims rivited on. I also have two brand new pairs in boxes that I have picked up via Ebay and one set has the shims rivited on and the other set looks like yours.

Both types are made by Jurid so I think as long as the compound is the same it's nothing to worry about.

...and I agree with Chrisgixer about the improved pedal feel, not sure if they are any better / better stopping distance over TC pads but they certainly inspire more confidence imho.

Sorry Andy, can you clarify. Both mine and the ones pictured at the top appear to have riveted on shims...?

Do SMD's are the odd ones out?

Actually, thinking about it, my dealers tried to flog me a set of them as SMD has, passing them off as oe. They came back later and said the proper ones where in, as I described.

They have the same part number as the OE ones we talk about. Definately different to TC pads.

Sorry I'm a bit confused now.

So mine are not TC pads but they are a variation of the OE pads.

Do they squeal?   ;D

IMHO, if the system is in well serviced condition, the weak point in the first 10-12 big stops is the front tyres, not the brake pads.

I can't comment on the 'feel' argument, not fitted OE to my Omegas.  I can say the last set of TC pads fitted to the MV6 feel lifeless, and squeal like a bastard, something I've not experienced before.
