Huge thanks to Marks DTM
« on: 24 June 2012, 08:35:26 »

For converting, and fitting 3.0 cats to my 3.2 estate.

Interesting to see them side by side. the 3.0's look a lot better flowing due to the angles that had to be compromised to fit the precat's in.

Lovely to have a car that doesnt sound like a tractor any more, and seems faster, more responsive and economical too.

Sorry those manifold nuts were such a problem, but your perseverence got there in the end.

And getting to drive that forklift around was the icing on the cake!

Cheers matey

So what are we looking at here Jb?

Master trimming the protruding Pre face lift pipe work?

Makes sense to mod the pre face lift ones as the lambda is already fitted post cat? Etc?

Yes, grinding down the flange in the pic.

Prefacelift ones have a smoother angled down pipe as theres no precat to fit in.

Yup, one new lambda to drill...and no old one fill.

Will make any future removal much easier too.

Car much nicer to drive now, doesnt sound like a tractor!

when I turned the old ones upside down and shook....a lot of cat core fell out!

One of my thoughts when face lift cats are removed was to take a suitable long blunt instruments and a bat, and smash the pre cat material out and remove it all together.

Do you think the pre cat material is britle enough to do that? I am assuming it is...?

seemed to be ceramics falling out...so guess so

was certainly partly blocking mine and causing a restriction.

the old main cats are larger than their newer equivalents too.

Its a joy to have no more orange light glaring at me.

Yes it is, it's done on a lot of diesel Astra H's.

The pre face lift ones have a pre-cat sensor for mixture control, you have to add a boss for the post cat lambda (which can be seen mounted in the pics above)  :y

The pre facelift cats appear larger (possibly less restrictive due to the presence of only a single cat) plus access to the mounting nuts (and oil filter  :y ) is a lot easier  :y

Good stuff. Only down side being rattling heat shields. But easily fixed with a jubilee. :)

Lol, yes, the facelift ones just fall off and then no rattle.

Would think total removal would not be an issue either as its not like the later ones have the.

Its a Sanderson all terrain forklift, a greta and very reliable british built unit (sadly Sanderson no longer exist) which won a Gold Award in the 80's (seem to recall an advert with Johnny Ball in it!)
