Meyle HD Drop link review
« on: 18 July 2012, 12:12:15 »

Big Blue needed new droplinks...

Checked the shops and decided on Meyle HD ones from Allgermanparts
They sounded good and had a 4 year guarantee! Ive had varying results from droplinks in the past, so thought these may fit the bill.  Reasonably priced too.

http://www.allgermanparts.co.uk/ourshop/prod_2034029-Front-anti-roll-bar-link-Meyle-HD-version-4-year-warranty-616-060-5575HD.html

Opened the box and was impressed by the quality, but slightly worried when I saw there was no 17mm flats to hold still during fitting....

My fears soon came to an end when I saw a hex cutout at the end of the bolt to hold them still with an allen key.  This actually made fitting them easier than the hold the flats method imho.

Here you can see how much thicker the metal is compared to normal ones, and the bush looks top quality too..

Fingers crossed they will last as well as expected.

Hex is fine for fitting but lack of flats may get 'interesting' when due for replacement.... :-\

Flats are a bloody nuisance ime as the spanner flips inboard as the nut loosens. So you have push the ball joint inboard and it's just fiddly with a stiff thread.

Hex do fill with crap though, so might be worth filling with grease first...?

Last vx one I bought where Merle heavy duty.

I slightly bent it being heavy handed on removal......quick lever rather than press down on the roll bar ;)

Arrh i see , the ones you took off look very similar to my old ones i took off ... totally wrecked . Guess the proof will be how long those ones last by comparison . Allen key hole looks chunky enough not to shear also  :y

Agreed - looks like a fairly small Allen key, ok for tightening up new parts but man enough when removing rusted, nackered parts some years (optimistic?) down the line?

Definitely - the MR2 droplinks are like this as standard and usually only come off with the aid of an angle grinder.. to be replaced with decent ones that have a machined flat on the other side for a spanner!
