Can I plug an Omega CCR 2006 radio into a Vectra?
« on: 30 June 2019, 11:58:48 »

2008 Vectra 1.8 petrol manual
I like playing tapes in my car. I hoped I could replace the Vectra radio/CD player with an Omega CCR 2006 radio/CD/tape player. It fits the aperture all right, but the connections are not the same. Are there adapters available?

the vec c is Quadlock Connection (like astra H)
you could convert to single din and fit a cheap tape player
this kit converts the dash and wiring to standard ISO (2 x 8 pin plugs , 1 for speakers, 1 for power etc )
kit clicky 17

but you would loose steering wheel volume control etc and less functions on the display (just time and date and outside temp  :-\

you can get adapters to retain steering wheel audio controls IF you have a compatible aftermarket head unit

got any old tape player radios single din ?

Thanks for advice, Dave.
I have ten or so old car radios on a shelf. including two with tape players and 12 disc CD players, all old style connections, presumably single DIN. My 2000 PFL Omega estate has the original radio unit with radio, cassette player, 6  disc magazine CD player, and phone, all still working, along with computer data display. I have not yet mastered the Vectra steering wheel controls as I have no handbook yet.

That would make each of Terry's radios worth 0.50.
Optimistic, I think.

I meant the owners manual  :y

Vectra C, certainly the later ones, have all the trip and vehicle settings managed via the head unit. Sure, you can throw in any old head unit with an adapter, but don't be surprised if things stop working as expected  ;)

do the Vec c radio units have a 3.5mm jack socket  :-\ so Terry can plug in his iPhone 10, MP3 player walkman cassette  :-\

I believe that it was either spec dependant or a 100 option :-\

Bluetooth only became a factory option with the Insignia/Astra J/Zafira C, so 2009MY onwards.

Terry's walkman tape player won't be bluetooth anyway  ;D
he could just put a Ghetto blaster on the passenger seat

If I had a CD30, Id get a CD70 Navi off ebay instead

Better sound quality, plus satnav, some have input for 3.5 (cd30 or cd70), some don't, but it can be retrofitted regardless.

CDCx version has a built-in six disc changer and also there's a version with digital radio, which might have extra wiring involved :y

My thanks to all for advice. My Owner's manual arrived today, it does mention and depict a 3.5mm AUX input socket, sadly my car is not fitted with it. I wonder if I could retrofit one? The head unit is simply labelled CD30.I have a CD30 MP3 head unit spare from my donor Astra.

What is currently fitted, as stereo wiring changed dramatically in life. If it ends in double digit, you have later audio setup, which being CANBUS based is hard to effectively integrate other units.  If 4 digit, then similar Omega stereos can work in many cases.

Seems a bodge to me that GM fitted the jack socket in that aperture under the unit Terry. Also retro fitting one seems to be quite a faff, so i,m led to believe. :-\

Car is 2008 iirc, anything 2005 on is full canbus, and not Omega interchangeable ;)

If the steering wheel has six round buttons then it is a part canbus, everything else is full canbus :y

one idea , having found an adapter while looking for something  else  ::) :D
FM modulator 5 clicky

use the 3.5mm jack lead to link it to a tape player/walkman , then tune a original cd30 radio station to the frequency

lots of other functions on the device that will probably be no use to Terry ,
sound quality via such a device and tapes would be poor compared to cd or digital
Mrs builder was using one before i ripped out the CD30 and installed touchscreen sterio with bucket avoidance cameras in her astra H estate .

but plug and play, no swapping the radio out etc

Interesting idea, Dave, I will bear it in mind. I am still sorting the Vectra, lots of strange features including many locking options. Just found a sticker on the driver's sun shield, warning of the car's habit of running away on slopes when parked.

That's down to integrating the hand brake with the rear calipers... Discs heat up in use and expand. You then park up and apply the handbrake which clamps the pads to the expanded disc. As the disc cools, the handbrake pressure reduces (the disc effectively becomes thinner) and eventually cannot hold the car. Early facelifts were prone to calipers seizing as well, which cooks the wheel bearings. Which is nice ::)

As the label recommends, first gear if facing uphill, reverse gear if facing downhill. I have found when fitting cam belts engines happily turn in both directions, so I suppose either low gear would do.
