Hi all,

A while ago I got a bit of localised very hot spot on the drivers seat and smell  >:(

My deductions are heated seat element is buggered.

It is a Mini Facelift 2.5V6 CDX.  I have read that they are easiy"er" to do ? (noticed post for leather seats which sounded a like surgery was required ?)

  • Are they simple to repair wthout major surgery for a Cloth Trim seat ?
  • Can get the replacement elements ?

If its major surgery, then I shall leave it (not used them for a year or two now since the hot posterior eppisode at the traffic lights  :D ) as not dared to turn on since  :-\

My post at http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=127630.0 actually shows the seats  :y

Thanks in advance.

Omega Gallery / New Leather Handbrake and Gearstick Gaitors
« on: 06 December 2014, 18:35:55 »
Hi all,

Following on from my earlier pics http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=127030.0 :y following my newly treated and painted wheel arches and rear doors (caught early hopefully to avoid the rot  :y), below is the new newly proper leather covered handbrake and Gearstick Gaiters from the local custom trim specialists opposite where I work  :y

They have done a fantastic job and the trim match is superb.

Well happy.  My car is like new with nice smell of leather :D

You can buy the handbrake gaiter etc on the bay of gay....for a few pounds, just done mine. Think the sellers are called Topgaiters iirc ;)

I got them re-done at custom trim place next to where I work in the end (they have some real fancy motas there so thought they should be decent!!) .  That way the plastic fittings/clips are original GM with then genuine top quality leather and look factory fit and blend perfectly to the pattern on the black console  :y. And the smell of leather in the car is a bonus !!

I shall try to take a PIC and post  :y

Omega General Help / Re: headlight restoration

I used 3000 grit with cutting paste, lots of water, and then 5000 grit and 7000 for final finish with lots of water only.  Finished with UV sealant and gives crystal clear finish.  Will take some time and pays to be patient and not be temped to attack with drill and polish cloth as could end in cloudy plastic as friction would cause heat on plastic !!!

To be fair, my lights were not bad to start with but came up like a new pin  :y

I have to do my dads facelift ones, and have ordered http://www.amazon.co.uk/Meguiars-G1900UK-Headlight-Restoration-Kit/dp/B001O7I7FS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1416781751&sr=8-2&keywords=headlight+restoration+kit but will start with the paste and wet and dry with lots of water as his lights are in a bad way.  I may use the kit to finish them off to showroom finish  :y

Good luck.

Note to self :. Check spare wheel in boot of my Omega which is ORIGINAL one, unused, and 14 years old now !

I do check pressure when I remember !

773
Cheers  :y

All sorted now  :y

Plastic frame unclips as mentioned  :y but top and bottom held in by console top but unscrewing (4 small black phillips screws) and lifting the black felt cubby hole enables gaiter frame to be released and lifted out and slid off handbrake with ease :y

Ahh the smell of nice new leather tomorrow :D

Hi.

Getting Gaiters re-done in soft leather  :D

How does the Handbrake one remove ?  Looks like there are a few plastic clips, but do any screws need to be removed from the centre console as its not coming away easilly from the console  ;D  (it is the original GM one).

A few screws are present holding I assume the black felt console cubby hole liner in, but does this need to be unscrewed and lifted to remove gaiter ?

I didn't want to wrestle too much with it in case I broke something  >:(

Thanks in advance.
Andy.

And ironically, the SI unit of Resistance / Impeadance is ........

Ohms, !!!  or the more familiar capital greek letter OMEGA !!!!!!! What else  :y

MOT passed with NO advisories  :D

Happy days.

"She is a vey clean mota sir and wheel arches all wax oiled" was the comment.

Getting handbrake and gearstick gaitors done now as they are tatty and there is a custom trim place opposite who can do is soft black leather  :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Impedance
« on: 13 November 2014, 21:29:28 »
Ahh impedance  :)

Think right angle triangles.   :y. Horizontal is Resistance (real bit) vertical is complex bit (reactance) and long bit (overall Impedance).  So for DC systems only resistance is valid as frequency is zero for reactive bit is zero !  For AC systems there then exists this complex vertical reactive bit which is proportional to frequency ( for capacitive systems the higher the frequency the smaller reactance.  This is why ac signals can pass through a capacitor and DC is blocked.  For inductive systems its the opposite.  That is why power transformers are the size and impedance they are and why 50hz mains voltage works so well.  Any higher frequency and the tranformers "reactance" increases as the vertical bit of that earlier triangle gets bigger so the bit triangle bit, the impedance, bets bigger.

PM me if you need to know more  :D

I have P.HD in electrical and electronic engineering, chartered Engineer and design the 132kV and 33kV power system for one of the main electricity network companies so know a bit about Complex impedance  :y

Basically I'm after a part number for the L.P. A/C Valve to save you reading all of the below...

The answer is here:  http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=125817.msg1605532#msg1605532

 or here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=125817.msg1604750#msg1604750

I got the GM ones http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/R134A-AIRCON-GM-SCHRADER-VALVE-CORE-PACK-5-2673-/400198885451?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item5d2db6604b but I also got some of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TYRE-VALVE-CORE-REMOVER-REMOVAL-TOOL-WHEEL-INNERTUBE-FOUR-FREE-CORES-/201066297456?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Wheels_tyre_Trims_Trims_ET&hash=item2ed07c3870

My problem was actually the High Pressure valve instead which can easily be changed (when de-gassed) as valve unscrews and is NOT part of the pipework contrary to what the Garages will try to fleece you for !!  HP valve is only a few quid.  The part number and guide for that is on the OOF guide at http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=124057.0  :y

Hope that helps. :y
Dr Andy  :D

Tried them before using the normal car tyre type as they didn't fit.

HP Is fine completey bone dry no issues, Did change that a few months ago anyway  :y

Have you tried these ones http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/R134A-AIRCON-GM-SCHRADER-VALVE-CORE-PACK-5-2673-/400198885451?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item5d2db6604b or got it sorted ?

If you fancy a drive there's an Elite velour interior (in pale grey, though), with all the electric seats and heated rears at a scrapyard near me  :y

Personally with that car being such a beautiful example of an original mode might be worth just keeping it in its factory spec... but only fair I let you / other OOFers know that they're there  :)

Thanks for the tip off Re Elite bits.  I guess I should keep her true to the Original Model & Spec as I can really  :y which is not too shabby  ;)

Cheers,
Andy.
