My wife had a '61 plate CRV 2.2 D-TEC EX auto from new; after 7 years she sold it after it clocked 107k. One of the most reliable cars she has ever owned, very comfortable, and deceptionally spacious inside. She loved it, and still went on about it 12 months after it went.
Not the nicest looking of cars, but from a reliablity point of view - couldn't fault it. Only thing that failed on it in 7 years was a parking sensor, which was replaced under warranty.
If you can stretch to one, I'd recommend going for the later D-TEC, rather than the CDTi - an improvement engine wise.

Prefacelift are in the higher tax bracket, but no adblue/dpf. Post face-lift are cheaper to tax, but have the above complications.

The can tow 2,100 kgs, but weigh north of two tons and most are all wheel drive, so should handle most of what you throw at it. Pretty decent to drive too.

Also, if you only need two seats, then the load space will give a Transhit Connect a pasting...

I can highly recommend the R Class .... not the most frugal of vehicles but a very capable tow car. Mine was the R320 but if the newer R350 is like my ML350 then it'll be better on fuel. Not had a problem with the Adblue ...

One of the lads at work had one, was chipped and went like dung of a shovel . He regularly drove back home to Poland in it ,dead reliable and good on fuel after the chip.

The list of requirements potentially rules out the smaller SUVs such as the Honda/Rav4 etc.

The previous question was about XC90s, so the R Class isn't that far out of the box

Just fishing cars out of the air tbh.
I have had 5 Omega's over nearly 20 years.
Love them to bits.
Thought i'd probably be buried in one.
I've been doing this dance at this time of year for 2 or 3 years but the omega seems to just go on and on and on ..........
Insurance is up at the end of June.  MOT in September.  Road tax in December.
I've got about 4 grand cash to play with.  Don't do finance ever unless you count paying my car insurance monthly.
The lad has a stage 1 10 plate Civic with the same engine.  Once in 3rd gear is is friggin quick.  Probably quicker then this Omega and even though he drives it like a 26 year old (idiot) he pulls nearly 40 mpg.
Need to start acting my age and settle down a little 

A added bonus is by the end of summer i'll have a dropped kerb and a proper hard standing for 2 or 3 cars so I can tart up the current Omega and sell on OR break it if needs be
